Italy slams Israel 'excess' (criticises Washington)
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 02:49 PM by cal04
ITALY'S Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema accused Israel of provoking hatred in the region by going too far with its military response in the Gaza strip and voiced concern over the future of Lebanon.

Mr D'Alema also criticised Washington's "failed politics" in Iraq saying the war had heightened regional risks and anti-Western fundamentalism.

Italy's new centre-left government, which has shifted its foreign policy away from Washington since taking power in April elections, has announced plans to withdraw all of its troops from Iraq by the end of the year.

(snip)
"It's clear that the political risk of Lebanon's collapse would not reinforce Israel's security," he said.

the U.S. is referred to as "leftist".

That's because we are so far "right" that we are like a bumper sticker glued to the right wall of the scale from left to right. I'm trying to say that the U.S. is to the "right" as far as is possible.

2. Well, Italy's government IS leftist now.
It leans more towards social services than power projection. Berlusconi lost in a squeaker, and he tried to cheat his way to victory, but he couldn't pull it off. The LEFTY won.

which is a coalition of center-LEFTIST interests.

I didn't see the word FLAMING anywhere.

Why are you taking it like it is a pejorative??

17. No, I think that you come across balanced to me ...
I'm saddened that Our Country is charging people to save them from a WAR Zone! Really sad that we have such a Sociopath and Right Wingers in the WH, we have no feeling of being part of a team ... of a Country that works together. The Executive Branch is "Daddy" and every other Citizen of the USA are merely "His Children." :grr:

21. You are exactly right. It's hard not to be permanent depressed
about the political situation. It does cheer me up to read many of the insightful posts on DU. It tells me that not everyone is politically insane.

9. Collapsed Lebanon would NOT reinforce Israeli security.
However, I'm trying to imagine what Lebanese would be feeling wholly secure with its current government right now.

I'm pretty sure that if George couldn't repel an invasion or the bombing of our airports and cities, we MIGHT be a little upset with him.

19. And it's so easy to win when you got all the $$$ and mighty weapons!
It's like beating up on a punk 12 year Old while his Mom watches on in horror. :(

The Media can be bought, but NO one can buy "the truth." And thanks to The Internet, the unvarnished truth (evil on both sides) is coming out.

governments, the Italians can again hold their heads high and stand for something other than rape and pillage.

20. Thank fuck for that. Once you get rid of Fascists, see
what happens. The truth will out.

I also notice that a Milan judge has issued arrest warrants for 13 CIA agents for kidnapping an Italian citizen and disappearing him to be tortuired somewhere. These arrogant fucks bundled him into a van in a milan street. Imagine that happening in New York or Chicago. There'd be a fucking invasion
