4. Just the nightly shelling of the compund, no doubt
This is the last you'll hear of it. No casualties will be *reported.*

Operation Iron Hammer continues apace, denying the enemy valuable resources and cover. Like the Captain of the Titanic: No need to worry; we're only stopping here to take on a little ice...

(Thanks to Michael Herr for that line)

Like the British at Ypres, they're "only" mortar rounds, and you'll hear no more of it. Popped off in the parking lot, you see, leaving a minor dent in the concrete. All's going quite swimmingly.

some Iraqi resistance unit hanging out in Baghdad, watching Fox News or the propaganda channel the CPA set up (which Iraqis seem to think is no different than when Saddam or his duckspeakers stunk up the airwaves), Bremer comes on.. "He said what?! The fucker! We'll show him."

Since Talabani and IGC/CPA thugs harassed al-Arabiyya into shutting up for "incitement", will he do the same to Bremer now?

my favorite part...

<"They have failed to intimidate the coalition," Bremer said. "They have now begun a pattern of trying to intimidate innocent Iraqis. They will not succeed...If Saddam taught the Iraqis nothing else, it was how to endure the depredations of thugs." >

....I beleive the Iraqis know who the "thugs" are. The guy is a fucking Moran...

23. Arrrrgh! Someone please define coalition!!!
My dictionary states:
An alliance, especially a temporary one, of people, factions, parties, or nations.
A combination into one body; a union.

Are not the "Iraqi police" and other Iraqis being attacked because they ARE part of the coalition?

Anything to keep the numbers down. They don't keep the casualty counts on Iraqis. They keep all the numbers separated, some they count, some they don't. Creative accounting to keep the true cost of lives of this fiasco hidden from the World!

Coalition = US troops then there are
Italian troops
UK troops
Hungarian troops
Whoever elses troops are there (I'm too pissed off to think clearly of them all right now!)
Then add
Foreign Aid/humanitarian groups
Lastly a big bin they through the rest in that they don't bother to keep count of - IRAQIS

<snip>
Abizaid agreed that the number of daily attacks on coalition forces were down by about half over the last two weeks. He gave no figures but U.S. officials said at the time that U.S. forces were being attacked on average of 30-35 times a day.

"In the past two weeks, these attacks have gone down, attacks against coalition forces, but unfortunately we find that attacks against Iraqis have increased," Abizaid said. He said the attacks had increased not only in numbers but in severity.

29. Thanks!
Interesting to note that they've backed off significantly on the foreign fighters. Pay particular note to the fact that he said there were no Iranians. Will be interesting to see if this changes.

Abizaid said some of the foreigners believed fighting with the insurgents included Syrians, Saudis and Yemenis among others. Significantly, he said no Iranians had been found so far with the insurgents.

"Foreign fighters are coming in and it is not correct to say that there are floods of foreign fighters coming in or thousands. The number is small," he said.

The "main problem" facing the coalition, he added, was not with foreigners but with "agents of the former regime."

I found this link in a quick search, you may want to dig deeper.

http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/world/archives/2003/11/25/2003077202

Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Shiite group, has established a significant presence in Iraq, but is not taking part in attacks on US forces inside the country, according to current and former US officials and Arabs familiar with the organization.

Iran is believed to be restraining Hezbollah from attacking US troops, and that is prompting a debate within the Bush administration about Iran's objectives, administration officials said.

Huh, what's that you say, they were killed by the "other" Irokee towel-heads? Wait now, are those dem terrast or dem-dar inserjents that lefties call resistence. Which towel heads were the good guys again? Can't be dem-dar terrast! Go lefties guyses"

He said they were becoming desperate because schools were opening and things were going so great for the Iraqi people.

I guess in a few years, Iraq will be a flowering country with a burgeoning middle class that dodges missles every day from the even more desperate evil-doers while they carry on shopping and working :eyes:

From Aljazeera....

<According to Reuters, residents of a neighbourhood near the headquarters said at least two rockets had landed nearby. A large crater had been blown in the middle of one road, but there were no signs anybody had been wounded.

The headquarters is situated at one of Saddam Hussein's former palace complexes on the west bank of the Tigris river in central Baghdad.>

Guerrillas Fire Rockets Into the Heart of Baghdad
Tue November 25, 2003 02:14 PM ET

By Andrew Marshall
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Guerrillas fired rockets at the headquarters of the U.S.-led administration in central Baghdad Tuesday and loudspeakers ordered personnel in the compound to take cover as explosions echoed across the Iraqi capital.

"Attack. Take cover. This is not a test," warned loudspeakers at the compound in one of Saddam Hussein's former palace complexes. Sirens wailed, flares lit up the night sky and U.S. helicopters clattered overhead.

A spokesman for the U.S. 1st Armored Division which patrols Baghdad said at least two rockets had been fired. One crashed through the roof of an empty apartment building near the coalition compound and another landed near a bus station.

"There are no reports of U.S. soldiers being injured, or of civilian casualties" the spokesman said.

But he said two Iraqi police were wounded in a rocket-propelled grenade attack near a Baghdad petrol station. (snip/...)

42. 3 Hurt In Attack Near US Compound In Baghdad -Fox News
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- One U.S. soldier and two Iraqi civilians were injured Tuesday evening in central Baghdad after multiple explosions were reported, Fox News reported.

Two explosions were possibly the result of a rocket attack near an administrative office for the coalition, Fox reported.

The U.S. soldier, who was not identified, is a member of the First Armored Division, Fox reported. There was no information on the extent of the injuries.

However, CNN reported Tuesday that only one Iraqi citizen was slightly injured when a shell exploded in the back yard of his home in Baghdad. The nearest U.S. troops were about a quarter to a third of a mile away from where the explosions - possibly two - occurred, CNN reported.

The explosions were near the former Iraqi ministry of information, CNN reported. Sirens around the city sounded after the explosions, warning of an attack.
