Rumsfeld: Arab TV Worked With Insurgents
http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/news/7348450.htm

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and his top military adviser said Tuesday they have evidence the Arab television news organizations Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya cooperated with Iraqi insurgents to witness and videotape attacks on American troops.

Rumsfeld said the effort fit a pattern of psychological warfare used by remnants of the Baathist government, who want to create the impression that no amount of U.S. firepower can end the insurgency.

"They've called Al-Jazeera to come and watch them do it (attack American troops), and Al-Arabiya," he told a Pentagon news conference. "`Come and see us, watch us; here is what we're going to do.'"

Pressed for details, Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, both indicated that U.S. forces in Iraq had collected more than just circumstantial evidence that one or both of the Arab news organizations might have cooperated with the attackers.

"Yes, I've seen scraps of information over a sustained period of time," Rumsfeld said. "I'm not in a position to make a final judgment on it," but it needs to be examined in an "orderly way," he added.

Neither Rumsfeld nor Myers provided details of any evidence.
<snip>

That's right, Rummy. And those of us who crticize the President is actually supporting the terrorists/insurgents as well.

3. Sounds like real god damn ...
journalists to me.

If the journalists helped the insurgence to plan or carry out the attacks then we should round'em up and vaporize them. I suspect that the journalists cooperated with them to "get the story".

Sure wish our state run media had hte balls to get in there and "get the story".

Cheers
Drifter

4. What if they did?
How different would that be from the old days in Afghanistan when Dan Rather was hanging out with the Mujahadin and filming their attacks?

6. How would you read this "quip?"
(snip) The question arose when Rumsfeld was asked about a videotape that surfaced in Baghdad showing a man firing a surface-to-air missile at a DHL cargo plane. The tape appeared to record an insurgent operation Saturday in which a missile struck the wing of the cargo plane, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing at Baghdad's airport. It was the first time insurgents struck a civilian plane in Iraq.

Rumsfeld said he had been told of the videotape but did not know enough about it to comment, beyond saying, "It doesn't take a genius to fire off a shoulder-fired missile at an airplane."
(snip)

I think ridiculing the skill of soldiers from any country is probably a bad idea for someone in his position.

8. It's the "Bring it on" mentality coupled with the arrogance of a Hawk

11. Ultimately, Rumsfeld doesn't give a crap about the attacks, per se
It's when they end up on TV that they bother him...Otherwise, he could just say they never happened.

Perception management has taken the place of reality with these people. I don't think they can distinguish between the two anymore. Same sort of thing that happens to underground LSD chemists who forget to wear gloves, I suppose.

14. Kinda like that evidence of WMD, Rumfilled?
Guess what? Nobody believes a fucking thing you say because you are a goddamned liar and you are responsible for killing thousands of people and maiming tens of thousands.

So, Fuck YOu, Rumfilled. Go back to your hole and write war poetry, until the Hague supboenas your sorry ass to a war crimes tribunal.

Okay?

15. Visualise this: an aging man,
Donald Rumsfeld on a horse, holding a lance. He's getting old, he's swaying in his saddle but By God he's going to attack that windmill and knock it down. (Don Quijote).

So Old Don is going to take on the entire muslim world? Again, this is a 'numbers fail to compute' situation. Arrogance, and being out of touch with reality is the cause of this.

He will never succeed in shutting down dissent in the Middle East, try as he might. They managed to pull it off here in the US, but it's a different story halfway around the world.

And a mighty frustrating one for Ole Don, apparently.

20. Rumsfeld slipping into senility--

He makes blatant charges that Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera are supporting
attacks, an inflammatory rant, and uses for his proof, "scraps" of
"information", that "need to be looked at". A new low for the old
and increasingly useless War-monger.
