Greg Dyke, director-general of the BBC, used the award of an International Emmy to round once again on US coverage of the Iraq war - suggesting the American media had become a "cheerleader" for the Bush administration.

Mr Dyke, receiving the award in New York, told leading broadcasters and media executives: "News organisations should be in the business of balancing their coverage, not banging the drum for one side or the other. This is something which seemed to get lost in American reporting during the war."

He cited research showing that US news organisations relied mostly on pundits who supported the war, and appeared to toe the government line.

"For any news organisation to act as a cheerleader for government is to undermine your credibility," he added

Wow. We never noticed this before.

But it's nice to hear it said out loud.

5. Mr. Dyke....our media whores here in Murica have been
Cheerleading for our pathetic captain bunnypants so long they have forgotten what real news is. They started during the Big Dog's years of going to shockertainment rather than news. Once chimpass started to run it was all over but the crying. Reporting/journalism was bad during the campaign, worse during the selection and totaly disappeared form our fair shores once the fraud was installed into the whitehouse. The cheering got louder during 9/11, the buildup to invasion and those fucking endless photo-ops/ fundraisers. It did not end with the "war", it continues here unabaited in all it's whoreish glory. This is why I don't watch cnn/msrnc and canceled my local news and fishwrap. Bottom line is Mr. Dyke, I don't think Murica will ever have a real "news" source untainted by corporate influence again.

7. Oh, the SHAME!
If the BBC says it, you can generally take it to the bank. You can't find one major Murkin media outlet anymore where that applies.

Damn.

:freak:

8. BBC rocks
When I want to read legitimate international news there's no way I'll bother to look at a US news channel.

9. The BBC shut that fascist Murdoch's mouth too!
Murdoch's attempt at suing the BBC fell flat. I've not heard anything about this recently.
