Clark vows to help working people
Clark vows to help working people

(EXCERPT) By ALAN J. BORSUK aborsuk@journalsentinel.com

Presidential candidate Wesley Clark promised Monday night in Milwaukee
that, if elected, he will bring in an era in which federal policy
favors economic help for working people and cooperative alliances with
other nations.

"This is the end of an era, believe me," the former Army general told
more than 400 people at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student
union during his second campaign swing through Wisconsin in less than
a month.

Clark listed two things in particular that will end if he is
president: federal tax policy based on the theory that benefits to the
rich will "trickle down" to everyone; and foreign policy based on "the
sort of chest-beating macho patriotism that demonizes people beyond
America's border."

In a 30-minute session that included brief remarks and a few questions
from the audience, Clark said, "This is the end of trickle-down
economics. It's over."

He added that "there's not a shred of economic reality" in theories
that help the rich in order to spur the economy...

Helping them into the poorhouse.
