Iraqis sent letter to UN in error, US says
http://famulus.msnbc.com/FamulusIntl/reuters11-25-153717.asp?reg=MIDEAST

WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 — The Iraqi Governing Council has told the United States a letter it delivered to the U.N. Security Council on Monday asking for a resolution on its timetable for ending the U.S. occupation was a draft version and was sent in error, U.S. officials said on Tuesday.

The final version dilutes the Governing Council's request that the Security Council pass a new resolution enshrining the Iraqis' timetable for ending the U.S. occupation, said one senior U.S. official, who asked not to be identified.

''Apparently somebody dropped a draft in the mail and the final version doesn't have the same language,'' he said.

''They (the Governing Council) don't have a hard position on the time frame for seeking a U.N. resolution and they would want to reflect that in their final version,'' he added.

And the dog ate my homework.

1. Yes indeed...it was all just a misunderstanding. Why would any Iraqi...
...in their right mind want American troops out of their country??

2. yep. i'm pretty sure that we didn't put any pressure on them to adopt the
"new" stance after we learned the contents of their letter. that wouldn't be like bushco. they don't pressure people. they're free-wheelin', light-hearted, happy-go-lucky kinda guys.

3. Whoopsie....
''They (the Governing Council) don't have a hard position on the time frame for seeking a U.N. resolution and they would want to reflect that in their final version,'' he added.

The Governing Council, a mainly advisory group of 25 people selected by the United States......

Oh ya, I see. The first part of that following paragraph explains everything.

Wanna keep that position on the GC?

4. good thing the U.S. is there
helping our Iraqi friends with their mailing difficulties. They'll get the hang of it, pretty soon they'll only send things we like.

5. That's a pretty short leash
You'd think that if the Governing Council actually sent the wrong draft by mistake, they'd be fully capable of sending a corrected version by themselves.

You'd also think the US would prompt them to do this, just for appearances sake, but that's the difference between a run-of-the-mill, standard-issue US Imperialist, and these idiot incompetents in the White House. They aren't even good at being bad!

6. And no soldiers' bodies were mutilated in Mosul, either.
Never let it be said that bushistas will allow a silly little thing like hard evidence to get in their way. Votes, eyewitnesses, documents, their own words? Bah! The physical universe is powerless in their presence.

9. "...Somebody dropped a draft in the mail...." Uh huh. Right.
Iraq now has a postal system so reliable that it can safely deliver highly sensitive and critical government mail into the appropriate hands--so secure, in fact, that correspondence between the Iraqi Governing Council and the UN Security Council need not be delivered by special courier.

Meanwhile, here at home, I get the neighbor's light bill about every other month. Maybe we could send some of our mail carriers over to Baghdad to see how they do it.

10. LOL... This is another one of those "Everone is stupid except for us"
moves. The way that the freeps, et al, suckle at their teats, I'm not surprised they feel comfortable spewing this drivel.

11. The Iraqi Governing Council thought they were the government of Iraq
Edited on Wed Nov-26-03 07:32 AM by IndianaGreen
They apparently did not realize that Iraq (aka Paul Bremer) had appointed an American as the new Iraqi Ambassador to the US, or that the second-in-command in Bremer's staff is an Israeli, Dan Senor, a graduate of Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Don't you love those dual-citizenship Americans?

Dan Senor

Dan Senor
Advisor to the U.S. Presidential Envoy in Iraq

Dan Senor is a Senior Advisor to Presidential Envoy L. Paul Bremer III, Administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority. Senor traveled to Baghdad in mid-April in one of the first civilian convoys to enter Iraq following the fall of the former regime. He has been serving in Iraq since, advising Amb. Bremer on a variety of policy and communications issues. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Senor was based at Centcom Headquarters in Qatar, where he was Director of the Coalition Information Center. Senor has also served as a Legislative Aide, Press Secretary, and Communications Director for then-Senator Spencer Abraham (R-MI). Senor completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.
