Bush admits Iraq, Afghan doubts

US President George W. Bush acknowledged Friday that some Iraqis and Afghans are "wondering whether the future is bright for them" but vowed victory in both war-torn countries.

Bush's remarks came as he met with US military personnel newly returned from Iraq and Afghanistan and assured them: "I want our troops to understand that not only does the country support them, but we'll win."

"You're doing some hard work. It's hard work to defeat terrorists," the President said, less than a week before welcoming Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to the White House.

Bush praised the US military as "people who bring such dignity and honour and bring compassion to people who have been suffering under tyranny and are now wondering whether or not the future is bright for them."

6. Bush doesn't bother me
He's a coke-addled, simple little worm with some rich maniacs behind him. He is what he is; he will always say imbecilic things like this. What really bugs me is the media failing to rip into moronic, jingoistic, meaningless sloganeering. "We'll win"? WTF does that mean, at this juncture, in Afghanistan?

The other thing that bothers me? The people opposed to invading Afghanistan militarily were shrilly screamed down as terra-lovers, or at best, stupid peaceniks in the wake of The Event That Changed History. Bullshit. This is why the folks who opposed knocking down Afghanistan to rubble *yet again* were opposed -- because this outcome was entirely, nauseatingly predictable. Military invasion is the last thing that ought to be done to rebuild a fragile society torn apart by structural violence. It only makes thing worse.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/06/15/karzai/

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Tuesday claimed victory in the war on terrorism in Afghanistan and announced what he called five new initiatives to strengthen the links between that country and the United States.

12. Sounds like a 4th or 5th grader
When I taught those grades, the students wrote short, simple sentences, much like...."You're doing some hard work. It's hard work to defeat terrorists."

16. that's why he SEEMS to be more understandable

to his base which does not care to be bothered w/ nuances and complex constructions. It's much easier to nod agreement w/ a few sound bites and then pursue other activities like watching reality tv.

18. does he think it's a freakin football game or something?
I guess once a cheerleader, always a cheerleader, eh DUMB@$$?
what in hell does "we'll win" really mean in this context, anyway? does the simpleton actually believe Iraqis, Afghanis, or any other Middle Eastern country want the United States meddling in their business, murdering their citizens, installing their own puppet government, stealing their resources? he acts like "terrorists" (read, Iraqi, Afghani, and all Middle Eastern citizens) are some finite thing, that with enough killing they will finally be "vanquished." yeah, we'll "win" all right--turning other people's countries into a pile of rubble over the graves of hundreds of thousands, probably millions by the time he's through, is really something to cheer about. do I need the "sarcasm" gif here?
