Tenn. Gubernatorial Candidate Arrested
July 21, 2006

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A Republican running for governor was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication following a GOP rally in Knoxville, sheriff's officials said.

Mark Albertini spent the night in the Knox County jail but was released early Friday. According to the arrest report, he had been standing at an intersection about 2 miles from the GOP event and "appeared to be unsteady on his feet."

The arrest report says a search of Albertini's car turned up a bottle of wine and a pistol.

A message left with the Albertini campaign was not immediately returned Friday.

Knox County Republican Party Chairman Brian Hornback said he saw Albertini at the event Thursday. The rally was billed as an opportunity to hear from Republican U.S. Senate and gubernatorial candidates. No alcohol was served, Hornback said.

I wonder what brand of wine he had

Avaliable in 750 mL and a devastating 50 oz jug.

The history of Thunderbird is as interesting as the drunken effects the one experiences from the wine. When Prohibition ended, Ernest Gallo and his brothers Julio and Joe wanted to corner the young wine market. Earnest wanted the company to become "the Campbell Soup company of the wine industry" so he started selling Thunderbird in the ghettos around the country. Their radio adds featured a song that sang, "What's the word? / Thunderbird / How's it sold? / Good and cold / What's the jive? / Bird's alive / What's the price? / Thirty twice." It is said that Ernest once drove through a tough, inner city neighborhood and pulled over when he saw a bum. When Gallo rolled down his window and called out, "What's the word?" the immediate answer from the bum was, "Thunderbird."

Cisco is bottled by the nation's second largest wine company, Canandaigua Wine Co., in Canandaigua, NY and Naples, NY - the same company as Wild Irish Rose.

Known as "liquid crack," for its reputation for wreaking more mental havoc than the cheapest tequila. Something in this syrupy hooch seems to have a synapse-blasting effect not unlike low-grade cocaine. The label insists that the ingredients are merely "citrus wine & grape wine with artificial flavor & artificial color," but anyone who has tried it knows better. Tales of Cisco-induced semi-psychotic fits are common. Often, people on a Cisco binge end up curled into a fetal ball, shuddering and muttering paranoid rants. Nudity and violence may well be involved too. Everyone who drinks this feels great at first, and claims, "It's not bad at all, I like it." But, you really do not want to mess around with this one, because they all sing a different tune a few minutes later. And by tune, I mean the psychotic ramblings of a raging naked bum.

In 1991, Cisco's tendency to cause a temporary form of inebriated insanity led the Federal Trade Commission to require its bottlers to print a warning on the label (above right). The FTC also forced them to drop their marketing slogan, "Takes You by Surprise," even though it was entirely accurate.

The thorn in your hangover is a wild rose from Ireland. Bottled by Canandaigua Wine in Chanadaigua, NY, the same company as Cisco. Like its brother Cisco, "Wild I" definitely has some secret additives that go straight to the cranium. Another web page claims that this foul beverage is a conspiracy by the republicans to kill the homeless. Bums ask a liquor store clerk for Wild Irish rose by saying, "gimme a pint of rosie with a skirt," a skirt being a paper bag. Some don't want it cold either. It's called "wild" for a good reason, and bystanders should beware. Wild Irish Rose is sure to light a fire of drunken rage in your soul.

Tanyev, I love your sig. A few years back, Lee had a theater in Pigeon Forge, which is in a county that neighbors mine. Ads for it ran on television ALL THE TIME (and I changed the channel all the time). I can't stand that song.

I'm wondering if this Albertini fellow is just a candidate for the Tennessee GOP's nomination for Governor or if many Tennessee Democrats' prayers have been answered from On High and Albertini is THE GOP nominee.

12. It felt good to let him know how I felt about him
I consider myself to be a TOD (Tired Old Drunk) but even I have enough sense to keep my drinking away from real life. I love my liquor, but it is only acceptable when the workday is done. Hopefully the people of KY will vote for someone that has the judgement to avoid these kind of problems.

Here's my response to his website:

Hey Mark,

Drink much? Here's a free clue, if you're running for office, make sure you're walking a straight and narrow path. We as citizens of this nation won't continue to support some self-serving schmuck who talks a good game but can't get off the bench without tripping over his own self interests. The people of KY deserve better.

15. Albertini: "As a Christian man and a Marine Corps Vet" (Barf Alert)
"The message of Mark is life" proclaims his campaign website. I guess this is why he is a pistol packing drunkard!

I expect him to do a Jimmy Swaggart imitation with tears streaming down his cheeks, "Oh, GAWD! I have sinned"

Dear Friends, I got into the Governor's race on October 15, 2005 because as a Christian man and a Marine Corps Vet, I was concerned about the condition of our State and Country. I knew I had a duty. I was concerned about the stand taken by Bredesen on Abortion, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Sexual Harassement and many other issues. I knew that he needed to be oppossed and I knew it was risky. But the lack of leadership and moral integrity from the current administration cried out for a change by the people. The fact is, all of us have a duty to ourselves and to society under God's word and the Declaration of Independence to stand for what is right and to choose leaders that are honorable and deserving of respect. I chose to run because of conviction, courage and belief in what our forefathers believed. I want to assure you that there is hope for a better future for us here in Tennessee. We can win the Governor's seat and provide a righteous compass. But it starts in honoring God and his laws. As we come together to elect a new Governor, let us do so with a vision that goes beyond what we as humans can do. Let us focus like a laser on a better life and a new purpose based in integrity and built upon the successes of our fellow Americans throughout our history. This is the time when we close the gate. We must stop favored perks, benefits and policies for our Republican and Democratic leaders. They must join us in the fight to get America back from moral and fiscal bankruptcy. We must work together for higher moral standards, more industrious jobs, more dedicated education and more honorable service to each other. If you share this hope, Platform, please support me now by making a donation, by volunteering to help or both. Let's join our hands together to give hope where there is none. And I ask you now to join me in the prayer of President John Adams, the 2nd President of the United States as he said in his 1797 inaugural address "And may that Being who is supreme over all, the Patron of Order, the Foundation of Justice, and the Protector in all ages of the world of virtuous liberty, continue His blessings upon this nation."

17. Bredesen Dominating Gubernatorial Match-ups
The other big race in Tennessee this fall, the gubernatorial contest, continues to shape up as a big win for incumbent Governor Phil Bredesen. The moderate Democrat holds a virtually insurmountable 58% to 22% lead over State Senator Jim Bryson. Against lawyer and former marine Mark Albertini, who has positioned himself as a conservative Christian, Bredesen does even better, leading 61% to 16%.

Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 03:56 PM by nealmhughes
Please, world! Tennessee is at heart a very nice place: we have a great manufacturing base, great educational and health care facilities that are the envy of the world. The only thing we lack are beaches, having in its stead the Tennessee River and its lakes, the Smoky Mountains, and dynamic cities like Chattanooga, Nashville and Memphis. One could go from Bristol in the northeast on the Virginia border to Memphis in the southeast corner on the Arkansas/Mississippi border and never stop being amazed.

Now we have a lot of B.S. to deal with, as well: namely, the unholy alliance of God, guns and the Bible.

But we have Jack Daniels and George Dickel to even out that...

They're all lushes. Getting inebriated is their way of loosening themselves up so they can lie without being nervous.

They go through life drunk, all the while telling the rest of us to have rigid self-control.

Just one more Repuke drunk in a long line of Repuke drunks. What WOULD they do without their alcohol?

22. I was arrested once in Tenn for having a six pack locked up in my trunk
It was a dry county. I spent a long weekend in jail and had to pay a fine of forty three dollars and fifty cents. Twenty dollar fine and twenty three fifty court costs. Also had my car impounded and that cost me an additional forty dollars. They had no reason to search my truck either. My car was not moving as I was parked along side the road looking at a road map trying to figure out where I was. They said they were investigating a burglary in the area. That was back in mid sixties so things may have changed but I doubt it...

I actually live about a mile away from the intersection where he was arrested. It's extremely dangerous. This is not someplace you want to play in traffic. Really, he was posing a danger to drivers as well as himself.

I had to edit and put the headline on my paper's story last night (it can be found on knoxnews.com). My favorite sentence: "The sheriff said he recognized Albertini and his silver car with a campaign sign secured with duct tape on the rear window."
