Issa opts out of race to challenge Boxer |
|
http://sacbee.com/state_wire/story/7848677p-8789129c.htmlVery very strange. I was absolutely SURE the Senate nomination was his for getting out of Ah-nuld's way. Looks like the Republicans are having difficulty finding a decent opponent against Boxer.

2. Perhaps it is because Judge James Gray announced that he intends to run |

this past week. For those not familiar with Judge Gray, he is a a former Orange County superior court judge and Libertarian against the WOD and they probably figure he will be able to peel significant liberal votes his way and run someone like a Miller to get the Repub vote.
Besides, Issa has now proven twice that he can't win a statewide election.

4. Well I doubt Judge Gray |
|
could get the nomination.
What I don't understand is what convinced Issa to drop out of the Governor's race after funding the recall. I thought for sure it was the promise of support for the Senate race.
So I guess it still leaves Simon and Jones.

But he has so much money he doesn't realize how loathsome he is--nice insulator wads of cash can be.

8. not to mention that his role in the recall |
|
funding it... then backing out crying when he was asked to bow out for arnie.. then threatening to ask folks to vote for Davis/against recall (rather than arnie)... left his reputation a bit... tattered (duh! dumbass... what did you expect..... a bushlike cloak? You werent born into a dynasty, don't expect that level of protection over your actions!)

The Republicans are not ready yet to seriously challenge Boxer. Despite Schwarzenegger's win, the state party has no bench to speak of that can go toe to toe with a formidable campaigner and fund-raiser like Boxer. They would be wise to let Boxer have it, recruit good candidates for the 2006 state elections and possibly compete for Feinstein's seat should she retire that year. The CAGOP won one election . They should not act like they suddenly have a mandate over all politics in the Golden State.
