Must read - Orrin Hatch staff caught red-handed
Republican Aide Improperly Got Democratic Memos
By REUTERS

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top U.S. Senate Republican expressed ``deep regret'' on Tuesday in announcing that an internal investigation of computer records found one of his staffers had ``improperly accessed'' Democratic documents.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch said he placed the staffer on administrative leave with pay pending a separate probe by the Senate sergeant at arms, Bill Pickle.

Hatch, who had initially ridiculed the allegations, also said a former staffer ``may also have been involved,'' but declined to identify either person by name.

(snip)

Hatch said the staffer who got access to the memos denied giving them to the news media and it remained unclear how reporters got them.

The disclosure came a week after congressional law enforcement authorities began looking into what Democrats called an apparent computer theft of 14 staff memos critical of President Bush's embattled judicial nominees.

4. I wish. That sonofoabitch is more slippery than greased pig.
Oral has been pretty untouchable during his tenure in Congress. It would take *ahem* an act of God to actually smack him from the post.

3. How does this differ from Watergate?
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 08:54 PM by nu_duer
Other than the fact the criminal party now controls all branches of government, as well as most of the "watchdog" (gag) media?

Who knew this was going on, and when did they know it?

How high does this go?

Geez, seems like we were just asking this about the outing of Wilson's wife as an undercover CIA operative, doesn't it? Whatever happened to that?

6. Not only should he resigsn, the LDS church should excommunicate his ass
I'm reasonably certain that Elohim and Joseph Smith wouldn't think too kindly of such crimes.

7. Expedient pre-emption. Hatch is suspiciously quick to throw a staffer...
...to the wolves. If this staffer decides to fight back, I certainly hope his affairs are in order because he'll be staring down the barrel of a Wellstone Special.

8. Hatch is an evil and ruthless man
Only the most indoctrinated right-wingers believe a word he says. He tried to cover-up and lied saying the accusations were ridiculous. Now the lout expects us to believe he regrets this happened. What he regrets is getting caught. When will people wake up and see what a despicable and corrupt group these republicans are?

10. Well, Orrin is outraged by another outrageous outrage
"I was shocked to learn that this may have occurred," Hatch said in a statement. "I am mortified that this improper, unethical and simply unacceptable breach of confidential files may have occurred on my watch."

A link that backs up the story is found in Post #14 of the thread; kstewart33, it would be very helpful if you could add your link to the New York Times story within that thread, too.

Thanks!
