Immigration Bill Aims to Bridge Republican Divide
Tuesday, July 25, 2006; Page A07

In an attempt to strike a pre-election Republican compromise on immigration, two conservative lawmakers will unveil a plan today that would allow most of the 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States a chance to work here legally, but only after the government certifies that U.S. borders have been sufficiently secured, two congressional aides said.

The proposal -- sponsored by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (Tex.) and Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.) -- would pressure illegal immigrants to "self-deport" to their home countries within two years of the law's enactment and apply for a new kind of visa that would allow them to return to the United States quickly and work legally if a job awaits them. They would have to work here for 17 years, however, to be eligible for U.S. citizenship.

2. Now look all you nice Mexican folks. We want you to come out of hiding
and go back to the poverty in Mexico. Later the nice folks in the USA will let you come back and if you work for 17 years in the fields you can be citizens. Now don't mind your kids that are US citizens. Take them with you back to what ever kind of school they have there. Hope you find a nice job and a decent place to live once you get back> Ba bye!

Get fucking real! These repubs need to live among the illegals first if they want to know how to pass a law that effects them justly. Of course this law is just for the November elections so who the hell cares what happens to the illegals. Screw them, we want to win!

4. This is what Pubs always wanted
11 million workers who have no legal standing with another 110 million ready to take their place if the first batch step out of line.

That's why the path to citizenship, in a reasonable time frame, was the most important part of the immigration bill.

7. Exactly
They want to make sure they don't close off the supply of cheap labor from Mexico. So they're making sure they can still use the same workers, and even increase the total flow of workers. They can't keep increasing their exorbitant profits unless they keep American wages low. And that can best be accomplished by increasing the labor force supply faster than the demand for workers.

As long as American workers can increase their spending by borrowing money to make up for the wage suppression from illegal immigration, Corporate America is happy to increase the flow even further. Lower wages = lower labor costs = increased profits.
