Tropical storm nears Hawaii (Daniel no longer hurricane)
http://www.disasternews.net/news/news.php?articleid=3239

Hawaii residents are bracing for a Tropical Storm Daniel, which could make landfall later this week.

The storm isn't likely to strengthen into a hurricane, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

Daniel - the first named storm of the season to enter Hawaiian waters - is likely to veer to the south of Oahu. Residents could see the effects from Thursday night through midday Saturday.

Hawaii's Big Island could see up to 10 inches of rain and 60-mph wind gusts.

Intense hurricane Daniel is forecast to strike the United States as a tropical storm at about 15:00 GMT on 28 July. Data supplied by the US Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Center suggest that the point of landfall will be near 19.0 N, 154.2 W. Daniel is expected to bring 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around 64 km/h (40 mph). Wind gusts in the area may be considerably higher.

2. Yeah, looks like you are in for a bit of rain.
Doesn't look horrible for winds, but cancel that picnic! I do like Hawaii. Too bad it is so far away though that may be what keeps it as it is.

Get your updates here:

The latest O'ahu local forecast holds no worse than scattered showers Friday (though that would still be enough to generate the Commute from Hell, as local drivers tend to slow to a crawl when it's just cloudy)

http://www.prh.noaa.gov/data/HFO/AFDHFO

DANIEL HAS
STALLED AS IT RAPIDLY WEAKENS ABOUT 850 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF
HILO. THE CPHC FORECAST CALLS FOR DANIEL TO WEAKEN INTO A DEPRESSION
TONIGHT AND GET CAUGHT UP IN THE TRADE WIND FLOW. THIS WILL LIKELY
TAKE THE SYSTEM SOUTH OF THE BIG ISLAND EARLY FRIDAY MORNING AND
SOUTH OF THE REST OF THE STATE THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

Then again, it is still July. Those buttheads promised us another light season while the Atlantic basin got whacked again. And yet we're up to E while they're stuck on B. Criminetly.

edit: Figures. Only hours after the Advertiser ran a screaming headline "Storm rushes toward Hawai'i", it craps out. :P

6. that is good news for you.
run a headline and it will change. Sort of like waiting for someone to show up and they are late so you call and as soon as the phone (home) rings they drive up. Or going to a dentist for a bad toothache and as soon as you walk in the office it feels better. Anyway, glad you aren't expected to get huge amounts rain.

7. Glad to hear it's dissipating, The sale of my condo in Honolulu takes
effect tomorrow - so I guess I won't be in harm's way any more.

Lived thru Iniki and the other one before that one - was spared both times (missed Honolulu).

Guess I really live out of state now - sigh...

11. 7:30 PM HST Tues: it's now a mere tropical depression
not even "storm".

Translation: close to a full day of yuk but no damage.
