Several explosions heard in central Baghdad
Several bombs and mortar rounds were heard in central Baghdad on Thursday. Police said there was no word on casualties.

The explosions were heard in Karrada, a mostly Shi'ite district with busy shopping areas.

4. More likely it was Sunni insurgents targeting a Shi'a mosque or trying
to kill a shi'a leader--this sounds like a targeted assassination to me:

None of those factions over there are in the peacemaking business.

And odds are better than good that US munitions had nothing to do with this explosion.

Twin blasts 'kill 24' in Baghdad

Two explosions in a central Baghdad district have killed at least
24 people, Iraqi police sources say.

The blasts happened in the Karrada area, a mostly Shia district.
Some 40 people were wounded.

Details are still coming in, but police said there was a car bomb
explosion and a barrage of mortar rounds.
