Democratic ad ties all of GOP to Bush

Democrats yesterday said they will link Republicans in power with President Bush as often as possible in the 100 days leading up to the midterm congressional elections.

To drive home this point, leaders of the minority party previewed a political ad they say will show that the Nov. 7 election will be decided on national issues such as Mr. Bush's insistence that the United States "stay the course" in Iraq.

The new Web ad shows several clips of Mr. Bush using the phrase "stay the course," contrasted with statistics on the national debt, record-high gas prices and increased health care and college costs for middle-class families.

"His message: Stay the course," the ad states. "Our message: A new direction. Now. Vote Democrats ... for a change."

1. This point should be driven home at every opportunity....
Every Republican is a Bush supporter. They have voted in lockstep for the Bush junta's failed invasions, runinous tax cuts, and destruction of Social Security and Medicare. There is no such thing as a good Republican.

2. I wish they would get some of these ads off their web site and onto the
airwaves and cable. The only ones going to see them on their web site are Democrats and I doubt they need much convincing. Get these ads out in public........

8. GREAT! The Only Problem I see With This Is How Quickly Will
the Democrats CAVE when the GOP starts to whine and call FOUL!!!

Happens EVERY time, so while I would LOVE to HOPE... for me HOPE is a four letter word. I guess I can still WISH they have grown a spine!

Only time will tell! Sorry if I sound so defeatist, however given what I've seen these past 6 years and especially the past 6 months to be sure.... I wonder if they have what it takes to really STICK IT TO THEM! I KNOW I would, but then I would have done a lot of things differently.... as most of us here at DU would have too!

Howard Dean may seem aggressive and outlandish at times, but at the very least he has tried to "stick" back even when it made him look foolish! I don't agree with everything he does, but he seems to have some fight in him where others don't, and I'm sure he has taken a lot of abuse because of it. But for the most part, he has tried to join the fray and demand some respect. Democrats must remember, in the past the Party was known as the Party Of The People, and not all people agree or think alike... but I recall something about a "big tent" mentality and not walking in lock step all the time. It seems to me that what the Democrats have lacked for so long is UNITY! Disagreement is healthy, but UNITY is essential when the chips are down!

I give it my blessing, but I wonder if they will be able to sustain the onslaught that mostly assuredly will be coming. Swift-boating has now become the Repukes most affective "attack plan!"

12. One good thing:
Dems are apparently hitting the road in August (will repugs be enjoying their vacations?)

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=69916

snip//

"Following today's event, Democrats will be taking their message of change across the country for the August Recess, holding more than two hundred New Direction events across America. Democrats are putting the Republican Do Nothing Congress on notice that the status quo will not continue. Standing united with the American people, Democrats have the right plan to take America in a New Direction."

14. Attention dems - advertise a BETTER direction!! like soap, etc
new and improved.

different direction is meaningless. driving forward over the highway vs a new direction right over the cliff.

better direction...for an improved way of living. give it some value.

in everything he wanted.

Time to kick them to the curb for what they have done to our country. They should all be put in prison for treason and war crimes.

22. As it should be

Just remember this famous quote .....

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.''

-- George W Bush at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill held on August 5, 2004

That sums up his performance pretty nicely I think.

26. Gee. A web ad. How about a REAL AD, idiots?
Undoubtedly, the Democratic Party wants to get your hopes up, while they have no intention of spreading this message to the American public. Why should they?

31. Anyone can afford to make an ad.
If pressed, a Democrat with a modestly endowed computer and some knowledge of video can make an ad.

The point is RUNNING the ad. Paying for the air time. That entails a committment to an idea. And since no one seems to know what ideas might work, here's a few suggestions:

Show a still picture of the Republican opponent. Most of these guys are trying to hide their Republican affiliation. Have the still picture joined by a picture of Bush. The announcer says "He's a Republican. He supported George Bush's war and his tax cuts for the rich. Why is he ashamed to be a Republican now? Our Guy is proud to be a Democrat. He wants to bring our troops home and bring good jobs back to America. Vote for Our Guy - Democrat."

But no Democrat will do it, because it might mess up their Pink Tutus.

"We won't make a sound, Daddy Dubya - just watch us dance!"

29. In a parade I was walking this weekend
There was nothing stating that the Republican candidates were Republicans. It was interesting-we had a kicking donkey and DFL prominently displayed. Obviously there is a theme trying to get the Republicans to distance themselves from their party a bit to appear more moderate (or less crazy). I think it's very important that Dems stand up as Democrats-and point out the Republicans have been doing the damage WITH Bush.

In a goofy mix up the Republican groups were directly in front of us. Apparently some groups had dropped out. We almost had the Boy Scouts in front of us to act as a buffer (the parade staff noticed the problem) but the queen of the parade route didn't want to screw up the MC. That was great...we spent a lot of time trying to make sure there was enough of a gap between us to separate us. I had to speak nicely to our current Secretary of State (who in a speech actually stated that the five scariest words in government were "separation of church and state.") Biting my tongue for the sake of our candidate wasn't easy-though he would have probably laughed if we had said anything...
