6. suicide while cleaning their guns?
Now I went through the same type of training each Army person does in regards to cleaning your weapon. Of course, I neve went to Iraq or any other war zone, but I can say that you always, always, ALWAYS make sure you don't have ANY ammunition inside before you start taking your M16 (and I suspect the M4 and other types of weapons too) apart. Not to say some exhausted GI might forget after god knows what he or she had gone through.

I don;t know whih is worse--the GI killing himself, or the euphorism being used to make it sound better :puke:

7. I'm not convinced they're all suicides.
I fear that many of the racial tensions that exists over here may be expressed over in Iraq in the form of fragging.

2. David J. Goldberg of Layton, UT
Edited on Thu Nov-27-03 02:22 AM by kainah
Layton died Nov. 26 in Qayyarah, Iraq. Goldberg died of a non-combat related injury.

C Company, 52nd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), U.S. Army Reserve, 43rd Area Support Group

from http://www.pigstye.net/iraq/wd.php

Or, are there two of them on the 26th? Daniel Goldberg of Layton, UT -- not "Layton" as wrongly identified above -- doesn't appear to be "attached to the 101st Airborne" but then I'm not very conversant with military lingo so maybe you can be "attached to" without it showing up in your unit information. Anyway, when I saw this description earlier tonight, I thought this was probably another suicide.

edited to correct inadvertent misspelling of name in headline.

3. The dispair grows....
How many more will end their own life because of the hell we have taken them to?
Why are people slaughtering themselves in a war of greed and oil?
This is beyond sad. And enraging...

5. Not necessarily suicide
You have a lot of stressed out young people with lethal weapons handy. There are bound to be some arguements that leave someone dead.
