US Senate passes Gulf of Mexico drilling bill |

The Senate bill, which passed 71-25, lifts a 25-year-old moratorium and allows drilling more than 125 miles off Florida's coast but bans drilling closer to shore until 2022. It now must be reconciled with a more wide-sweeping bill passed by the House of Representatives in June that rescinds a drilling moratorium on most U.S. Atlantic and Pacific coastal waters more than 100 miles from shore.
