Iraq: Skeptics Scoff as US Again Turns to UN for Legitimacy
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/1127-05.htm

UNITED NATIONS - After coercing the United Nations to give its blessings to the
military occupation and post-war reconstruction of Iraq, the United States is planning
to return to the world body -- this time to legitimize the transfer of political power to
Iraqis.

But U.N. diplomats, U.S. political analysts and representatives of non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) are skeptical about U.S. plans for the proposed transition and
attempts to accelerate the process.

The rush for the creation of a new Iraqi transitional
government, they say, has been motivated primarily by the
continued violence against U.S. forces in Iraq.

''There can be Iraqi individuals running a government while
Iraq is under U.S. occupation, but that's very different from a
genuine Iraqi-run government,'' Norman Solomon, executive
director of the Washington-based Institute for Public
Accuracy, told IPS.

1. The situation stinks
''As time goes on, the situation seems likely to turn into a protracted modern-day version of a colonial war against guerrillas and a population largely hostile to the occupiers,'' he suggested.

2. I thought the UN was "irrelevant" ....
and that the "Coalition of the Willing" would take their place.

That is what Bush/media told us before this war.

I guess Bush/media LIED, sighh, AGAIN.

3. Iraq is an American problem,
thanks to the incompetent diplomacy of the Bush administration. It will remain our problem until we admit to the world that we wrongly pushed for war based on bad intelligence. Our allies (at least before Bush alienated them) will be unwilling to help until America comes clean. The world does not want a trigger-happy America, and will not support us again until we admit our mistakes. That will not happen with the neocon cabal in power.

4. first bush* sticks out his chin
like Mussolini and says we'll go it alone, then he tells the UN they are irrelevant

obviously Bush* has never read "How to win friends and influence people"

Now he wants the UN to help dig him out of Iraq....

just my opinion - I don't see any significant UN help coming as long as Bush* remains planted in the oval orafice

5. You mean…
he expects the U.N. to help dig him out of Iraq.

Time magazine has a story this week about the love/hate problem with *. It pointed out that one of the irritating things he says is "I expect…"
