Blix Says Hopes U.S. Learned a Lesson in Iraq
Edited on Fri Nov-28-03 05:04 AM by ze_dscherman
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Hans Blix, the former chief U.N. weapons inspector, was quoted on Friday as saying he hoped Washington had learned its lesson in Iraq about the need for multinational cooperation.

"The United States is on the ground, they can't leave now. But...they don't have much experience in reconstructing a country," said Blix, the former Swedish foreign minister who for 16 years headed the U.N. nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.

"They will need the United Nations a great deal. I hope the Americans have learned their lesson and recognize the need for cooperation.

"I don't really see them doing quite the same thing in Iran or North Korea very quickly. And you better believe that when they show up with evidence again, we will scrutinize them very closely," he said.

7. actually, if we're thinking of the same report..
the 20,000 occupation forces are just stationed in the al-Anbar province itself, which just borders on Syria/Saudi Arabia/Jordan. The emphasis on the "Syrian border" came from WorldNetDaily, I believe.. they tend to lie.

4. Refugees International
basically is saying the same thing-let the NGOs who have had experience into the country and let them do the reconstruction. Seems that the reconstruction being done by our wonderful corporations is spotty, at best. Check out all Iraq articles at www.refugeesinternational.org

The US taxpayers may eventually learn as they foot the bill but that is only a hope.

14. When they or their sons get their letter in the mail ...
to report for an induction physical, it might open some eyes. Until then, I think most Americans are enjoying the new reality show being broadcast from Iraq. 2004 Bush election = 2005 draft. No question. The military is sucking wind for personnel.

15. Don't go beatifying Blix just yet.
He had the opportunity to say -- unequivocally -- that Bush was lying. He failed to act. He's responsible for this mess, too.
