State auditor to report on $27 million disabled funding dispute

The Associated Press
DESTIN, Fla.
An auditor's report due Dec. 8 may explain why the state is cutting $27 million in services for developmentally disabled people.

State Rep. Ray Sansom, R-Destin, appointed to chair the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee last week, said he immediately asked Auditor General Bill Monroe to "look into where the money is."

The state inspector general's office also is looking into the spending cut. It triggered protests around the state against the Florida Department of Children & Families on Nov. 12 after the agency slashed fees it pays for services to avoid a deficit. (snip)

(snip) "I am shocked that DCF could lose or at the very least misplace $27 million," Brenda Marrier, director of Independent Living, a Fort Walton Beach provider, wrote in a letter to the Northwest Florida Daily News. "In my business I must keep records, receipts, and account for every single dollar that comes into my office." (snip/...)

1. Not Lost!
That money is not lost. So stop saying that, Jeb used it to buy stocks of Edison Schools, you know something more useful. Propping up failing stocks like Enron and Edison are a far more worthy cause than spending that money on people who are actually in need.

5. look in West Palm Beach
We got $510 million to give to pay executives at a Biotech company that may not even stay but we don't have $27 million for disabled children.

I think you'll find the money there.

6. Under the watch of the rightwing fundie from Oklahoma who took over
DCF last year? The one with ties, I believe, to the Focus on the Family folks? Money missing (aka 'stealing') under his watch? Services cut to those most in need (oh these folks so LOVE to deny the teachings of Jesus)?
