Rice defens Bush's surprise Iraq visit
Rice Defends Bush's Surprise Iraq Visit
By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE - Three hours from landing on a high-risk visit to Baghdad, President Bush (news - web sites) was most anxious about keeping it a secret.

"I was fully prepared to turn this baby around, come home," Bush said later aboard Air Force One. To everyone's amazement the secrecy held.

Speaking to reporters in Crawford on Friday, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites), who accompanied the president to Baghdad, said the troops' reaction, "the total surprise and the kind of wonder, made the whole thing worth it." . . .

Other Secret Service agents left at the ranch were not told the president had departed. Rice and the president wore ball caps; Bush said he pulled his low on his face and slouched down in his seat to avoid being recognized by an airfield guard.

"We looked like a normal couple," Bush said of himself and Rice.

4. "The whole thing worth it..."
The whole thing - traveling on the world's most secure aircraft with every amenity possible in a high government position - that whole thing was worth it?

Wonder if those killed there thought the "whole thing" was worth it for them - since that would be their lives?

Detached sophomoric assholes make me ill.

5. hurm...
...made the whole thing worth it? What, the war? The war was worth it for the surprise photo op? The secret plane ride as a 'normal couple' wearing ballcaps was worth it? There are just so many ways to call this wrong...

6. Wow....
It took two or three days before anybody needed to "defend" the flying drunk's aircraft carrier landing...

Guess Chimpy's newest stunt is self-destructing even faster...how long before he blames the Secret Service for making him sneak in and out?

9. He is a comedien
Edited on Fri Nov-28-03 04:30 PM by Marianne
right? Why do I get the feeling he thought this was a real fun thing to do on our money. Imagine the two of them, taking off wearing baseball caps to disguise themselves--(from whom I wonder?) going off in an unmarked car (who was driving? and who was there to notice?)and laughing their heads off at the sheer fun of it all. How come the first frump, sour , joker smiled, pickles, was not there with him instead of Condoleeza? I am beginning to suspect a relationship here that is not very above board and is possibly scandalous  --Condoleeza says nothing of value as National Security advisor that I have ever read, but has a lot to say in defense of the comedic actions of her disguised traveling companion, Bush (as his choice of the real first lady maybe?) Perhaps she has inherited the duties of Karen as protectoress of the dumbassed emperor who wears new invisible clothes.

12. That's my Bush.
You know, it is pretty comical now that I think about it. They have to resort to defending the trip the day after it happened, so you know this isn't going to have the positive impact they were hoping for.

Especially for doing all that just to stay for two hours. MWAH-HAH-HAH!!!

14. That is the way I pictured it too
I bet he thought this was more fun than his video games and it makes me sick to think of him getting his jollies from this while wasting money the soldiers needed in equipment and supplies, and using them for a photo op, and as I was flipping channels I saw Hillary and a headline beneath saying "copying the president".

I was glad to see this where they have to defend what they did. I watched c-span this morning before work and I was pleasantly surprised that there were a few callers who were skeptical.

22. What's up with Kinda-Sleezy Rice and Shrub anyway?
He seems to do NOTHING without her at his side.
None of my business, could care less. Think Frumpy would be a bit worried though.
It's his personal life, but man if there's something going on after what they put Clinton through, I've got a problem with that.
