The government here has pretty much already decided to send 3000 troops (not sure on exact make-up, but looks like about half and half combat troops and rebuilding personnel). Public opposition as been pretty clearly defined with the old conservatives still saying "oh we must protect the US-Korea relationship". I hope that this (sad that it had to come to this), coupled with the attack on the Palestine hotel where the S. Korean legislators were staying will change their minds.
Of course, if I were wearing my tin-foil hat....the US reportedly asked for between 5000-10,000 combat troops from South Korea. I know that recent reports here had shown that "due to the uncertain security in Iraq, the South Korean govt. was leaning towards incuding more combat troops". If I were the US and I wanted them to lean even more in that direction....
