Iraq attacks leave 13 dead
Iraq attacks leave 13 dead

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) --Four separate attacks on diplomats, troops and civilians from countries participating in the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq left 13 dead Saturday.

The strikes came at the end of the deadliest month for U.S. troops and other coalition soldiers since the Iraqi war began.

In a highway ambush that Spain's defense minister called an assassination, Iraqi insurgents killed seven Spanish intelligence agents and wounded another as their convoy moved south from Baghdad.

Two Japanese diplomats and their Iraqi driver were shot and killed near Tikrit when they made a stop for food en route to an Iraqi reconstruction conference, U.S. military and Japanese officials said.

~snip~

And coalition officials say a civilian -- a senior security representative of a U.S. company providing contracted services in Iraq -- was shot and killed Saturday as he drove to a U.S. base north of Baghdad near Balad.

16. Tasteless, but it makes a great point.
I actually sent it along to my mom and dad.

It's a good, brief review of things that have gone on just recently. "10,000 coalition casualties" would fit in well there, somewhere, too.

8. Does anyone else think these are coordinated attacks?
Given the 13 dead on Sat. and 4 more soldiers dead today in addition to 2 Korean dead and 2 Wounded. Allof these attacks scattered all over Iraq. I think either chimpass* pissed off the rest of the people in Iraq that tolerated the US presence and all hell has broken loose. OR, there is a major coordination of attacks going on by a united guerilla force.

10. the idea behind it is almost certainly coordinated
While a couple of the particular expressions of the general idea have been far from honourable, that general idea is to go after the lackeys and mercenaries of the main occupying force (or those that could be perceived in this light, not always correctly so) and isolate the latter--that in itself attacks and weakens the criminal occupation as a whole, and makes maintaining it more difficult.

9. Not the safest time for America's mercenaries out there
I doubt the lackey regimes back home will get the hint, though, as clueless density and arrogance go quite well together.

13. We must redouble our efforts to restore a rational government
in Washington DC, and end this slaughter. Our troops are in a place they don't belong and we must continue fighting to get them out of there. God forbid, if we can't oust the corrupt Bush administration, things will get much, much worse.

15. Just saw on CNN Spanish return of Spanish dead is being covered
at airport in Madrid - showing flag covered coffins.

And this is all we see - from CBS website - since it is covering 2 US dead I assume it's a US casualty - but who knows - we don't see our flag covered coffins returning.

17. when they made a stop for food
That does not sound like a planned hit, but rather the true feelings of the Iraqi people. Who else saw the images of jubilant Iraqi's at the scene of these strikes? It appears that the hearts and minds have been lost, if they were ever really won in the first place.
