Troubled School dealing with grief
Edited on Sun Nov-30-03 03:15 PM by HEyHEY
Grief counsellors will be at Sir Charles Tupper Secondary School tomorrow to help students deal with the news one of its students has been killed.

Principal Jennifer Palmer yesterday expressed her "deep sorrow" at the death of Grade 11 student Mao Jomar Lanot.

Palmer said the school takes a hands-on approach in dealing with its problems.

"I think our student population is proud of the respect they have for diversity in their school," she said. Tupper has 1,200 students, by far the majority of them ethnic minorities. Of the students, almost half speak a language other than English in their homes.

The former chairwoman of the parent advisory council at Tupper, Dyane Lynch, said there is an element of racial antagonism between some students.

Very tragic, this young man was beaten to death by a group of indo-canadians after he and some friends (they're Filipina) exchanged racial slurs with them .
I couldn't find the article about the actual murder though.
