Microsoft Aims for Software in Every Car | Yahoo News
Microsoft Aims for Software in Every Car

REDMOND, Wash. - First Microsoft set out to put a computer in every home. Now the software giant hopes to put one in every vehicle, too.

"We'd like to have one of our operating systems in every car on Earth," said Dick Brass, vice-president of Microsoft's automotive business unit. "It's a lofty goal."

Cars with the Microsoft software will speak up when it's time for an oil change. They'll warn drivers about wrecks on the road ahead and scout alternative routes. They'll pay freeway tolls automatically. The software running their brakes will upgrade itself wirelessly.

The Microsoft platform already is in 23 different car models, including the BMW 7 series, Citroen, Daimler, Fiat, Volvo, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Toyota.

They cause cd's to fly out and create other problems with vehicle operations.

2. I can just imagine high tech assassins drooling now.
Hack into the braking software and disable it at just the right moment... direct a car into a dead end for an ambush or kidnapping... there's a lot of evil possibilities.

10. Yikes ! - does that mean Big brother knows when I go to the Beer Store ?

. . gives a whole new meaning to "invasion of privacy"

. . next ??

criminals on parole now wear monitoring devices

soon it will be "implants"

then

same for people on welfare

Then -

"every newborn gets an implant"

scary part is -

WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY

and Big Brother would LOVE to use it

scary indeed

11. Brings to mind Nixon with his radio plan...
...which would have enabled him to broadcast "emergency" White House messages across car radios.

"A Nixon under every hood..." Hmmm, a slogan equally suitable for Ku Klux Klan recruiting? ;-)
