WASHINGTON -- President Bush isn't the only U.S. official making a stealthy visit to Iraq.
Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., was part of a small congressional delegation that made an unpublicized visit to Bagdhad this week. The trip by Corzine, Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., and several congressional aides was kept quiet because of security concerns, Corzine spokesman Darius Goore said yesterday.
"He is over there to get a first-hand look at the challenges that our troops are facing, the challenges of reconstruction and to get a perspective on what the expectations are of the Iraqi people," Goore said.
So far, the two Democrats have visited Pakistan, Afghanistan and Baghdad. Today, they will visit the southern city of Basra, Iraq, then fly to Israel for meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and the new Palestinian prime minister, Ahmed Qureia.
