Brown claims DeWine missed many hearings (Intel)
But sessions only part of intelligence work, senator says
Wednesday, October 04, 2006
Stephen Koff
Plain Dealer Bureau Chief

Washington -- Sen. Mike DeWine has missed nearly half the public hearings of the Senate Intelligence Committee, a panel he is on that is supposed to keep the nation's intelligence capabilities on track, his opponent charged Tuesday.

DeWine's absenteeism included most if not every one of the committee's public oversight hearings in the three years before 9/11, according to committee attendance records provided by the campaign of Rep. Sherrod Brown, the Avon Democrat opposing DeWine in November.

DeWine missed sessions where then-CIA Director George Tenet and other intelligence authorities testified, and where worldwide security threats, international terrorism, counterintelligence threats at the nation's nuclear laboratories and nominations to intelligence agencies were discussed, records show.

DeWine's campaign, promoting the Republican incumbent as strong on national security, did not dispute these assertions. But spokesman Brian Seitchik, said public hearings represent only a sliver of DeWine's intelligence work.

Missed half the hearings?? Talk about being "soft on terror."

1. DeWine is in big trouble
I'm surprised the PD even ran this story, they've still been trying to prop DeWine up lately. Maybe they're giving up on him.

7. "DeWine keeps low profile while getting work done"- on PD front page to-
day. They put the 'DeWine missed hearings' story on page 8.

Yesterday on front page-"Brown could make name for himself with Senate win"(?.Brown's just some jerk trying to make a name for himself,I guess.?I know no one's ever heard of him so far.?)

Heard some expert saying yesterday that most people don't pay attention to elections until about now.So it's crunch time, war room time. And real prime propaganda-catapulting time.

2. Looks like Sherrod is going to be swinging first going in to November
I like seeing the Democrats on the offensive for a change.

6. being on the offensive -- that's how
the democratic party should be planning every move they make.

a good offense beats a good defense every time.

4. when will the rest of us understand
that it takes more than gathering a bunch of soldiers for a photo-op and saying that you are strong on security to ACTUALLY BE STRONG ON SECURITY.

The republicans are reaching the end of the line with being able to just say whatever they want and the sheeple just believe it.

the problem for them it seems is that there is this tiny little phrase that does make sense, and people are finally remembering what their parents always told them "Actions speak louder than words"

What they give us is a lot of words saying one thing and lots of actions saying a completely different thing.

5. DeWine has only a sliver of intelligence.
Is that what his spokesman said? That sounds about right, if it was a SMALL sliver. I hope DeWine gets his ass handed to him on a platter November 7.

PN326 - John Bolton nomination .....yes....

Yeah, it just goes ON and ON and ON (see links below). This weird little caricatured wimpus is nothing but a far right Bewsh val-yews rubber stamp and he, along with grouchy George Voinovich, need to get the HELL out of our regressing state offices at ONCE.

Oh yeah, in case you were wondering about the security piece of that disgrace of a voting record - he voted NO on the two issues Kerry raised through his campaign regarding National Security (the ones that actually have to DO with MAKING our nation secure PROACTIVELY) and voted YES on the PATRIOT crap (that would be the "roving wiretaps" bills - that have everything to do with wiping one's ass with the Constitution & infringing on our rights with little to do in the way of making the public safe). Disgusting.
