Marine Base Seeks Missing Laptop
LOS ANGELES (AP) - A laptop computer loaded with personal information on 2,400 residents of the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base has been lost, authorities said Friday.

The computer was reported missing Tuesday by Lincoln B.P. Management Inc., which helps manage base housing.

The company and Camp Pendleton are investigating. As of Friday, investigators had not found evidence that the data had been accessed, the base said in a statement.

1. Excuse me for asking, but ...
... exactly HOW MANY computers and computer files containing personal information have been 'lost' in the last twelve months?

Amazing this should all happen on the watch of the "we're keeping America safe" crowd, dontcha think?

BREAKING NEWS - Dateline: February 2007:

"The following citizens HAVE NOT had their personal information compromised: Joshua H. Schrikenzwerg and Genevieve F. Gzaworksie. Thank you, that is all."

3. Honest to God, NVMojo ...
... this kind of news story used to be a once-in-a-lifetime cyber-mistake -- and now it seems to be happening at least once every few weeks.

:wtf:

4. I agree, awhile back I started a tally but then lost track ...no internal
security for technology, equipment of privacy info. I could see this happen to a small business owner who didn't set up policy and procedures but the fed who is supposed to be protecting us??? LOL!

5. Yeah, it would be REALLY SCARY ...
... if it wasn't for the fact that the people "in charge" (the GOP) are the party that are KEEPING AMERICA SAFE, huh?

7. The entire Federal Government is being outsourced to private corporations.
Notice that it wasn't actually the US Marine Corps
that lost this; they never even HAD it.

Yet another "lowest bidder/largest contributor" for-profit
business doing what Federal employees used to do. And doing
it POORLY, at best.

Doing it CRIMINALLY, at worst.

8. I'm sure the BFEE will need to know which soldiers are "loyal"
once the regime decides to consolidate its power.
