WASHINGTON -- A conservative group is blending ads, e-mails and the feature film "United 93" in an innovative campaign to convince voters that the war in Iraq is a crucial component in the struggle against terrorism.

Progress for America began airing a new ad in the political battlegrounds of Missouri and Ohio and on national cable featuring David Beamer, whose son Todd was killed when United Flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001, in a field in southwestern Pennsylvania.

At the same time, the group is sending hundreds of thousands of e-mails across the country with an offer from Beamer to give away free copies of "United 93," the feature film about the passengers who joined Todd Beamer in thwarting the hijackers' plans to reach their Washington targets.

Though required to work independently from candidates and political parties, the Progress for America message dovetails with Republican efforts to link the war in Iraq with the war on terror.

2. I saw United 93

I thought it made our government look completely foolish. The chaoses going
on was unbelievable. No one could reach Cheney or Bush to get orders as to what
to do when they realized four planes had been hijacked. Norad was depicted as
completely ineffectual. I couldn't believe Flight 93 was still on the ground, delayed by too many planes ahead to take off, while Tower One had already been hit.
I really thought it proved how nobody in our government really knew what to do
in crisis, shades of Katrina. I simply don't know how that movie makes this
Administration look anything but terrible. The passengers on Flight 93 were heroic
but as ususal, the people running our government were simply terrible.

7. As it happens, I watched this film tonight on payperview,

and I totally agree with your assessment. I had thought all along that it was going to be a propaganda tool, but it didn't come off at all positive to this administration. If anything, it made them look confused and foolish.

I do think that the people on this flight were heroic and they died in the service of their country. And that is pretty much what the film portrayed.

You are well aware of the fact that no one knows for sure what exactly happened on board that flight, right?

Everything that was depicted regarding what was happening during the actual flight was based upon one cell phone call message, "let's roll".

I'm not trying to be a kill joy, wise ass or know it all, but I just want the facts to be straight.

There's no possible way of knowing what happened on that flight. Anyone who knows the truth is dead.

So, people must draw their own conclusions. A lot of folks feel that cell phone call indicates why the plane crashed when all the others struck their marks.

when that call was supposedly made (I still believe it was faked) and when the plane actually was blown up (I don't think it crashed due to anything internal) it would be a reasonable assumption that perhaps the people on board did something but just like my theories, it's wide open to speculation.

8. This year on 9-11 BUSH shut down the airport in Pittsburgh ..

He was his way to that field in PA where Flight 93 crashed ... Bush and Laura crashed the memorial service by helicopter and left Airforce 1 in Pittsburgh to delay thousands of travelers ... leaving many in Chicago and still others stuck in the air circling Pittsburgh ... all missed their flights and connections while Bush continued to exploit not only Flight 93 BUTT also the AMISH ... all in one fatal swoop AGAIN on 9-11-06 ... all in days work for Bush ... FEAR is all they have and sooo they keep selling it ... worked for them then and now ... it's all they've got ...

I saw this movie and it made Bush and Co look inept and foolish. I had no idea the movie took this stance. It's just very factual, more people need to see it.

13. It was a very good movie.

It was not political at all, IMO. It focused on the human drama on the plane and on the ground, and it was very moving.

If anything, the mixed messages/confusion of the airlines/ground controllers/FAA/military did not provide any support for the current maladministration.
