Partisans trade barbs over deepening Washington sex scandal

Partisans trade barbs over deepening Washington sex scandal

by Magan Crane 9 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Political partisans traded blame over an increasingly tawdry sex scandal that threatens to end more than a decade of Republican control of the US Congress in November's elections.

With opinion polls showing the public rapidly pulling back support for the party of
President George W. Bush, majority Republicans went on the offensive, claiming that opposition Democrats were behind the news of former Republican representative Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record)'s e-mailed sexual overtures to teenage congressional aides.

"What I don't understand is, where have these e-mails been for three years? Are we saying that a 15-year-old child would've sat on e-mails that were XXX-rated for three years and suddenly spring them out right on the eve of an election?" Republican Representative Jack Kingston (news, bio, voting record) of Georgia asked on "Fox News Sunday".

"That's just a little bit too suspicious, even for Washington, DC."......

2. The GOP owns this scandal - It's theirs
Their refusal to take accountability and blame the democrats only make them appear weaker.

6. Newsweek poll -42% think Dems better with morals than Repugs. umm.

looks like Clinton ghost has taken a hike?

.....A Newsweek poll found 42 percent of likely voters say they trust Democrats to do a better job on moral issues compared to 36 percent favoring Republicans.

"The only thing I hear from people is Foley," Republican Representative Ray LaHood (news, bio, voting record) told Newsweek. "It's all anybody wants to talk about, and I don't see that changing anytime soon."

But Republican Representative Patrick McHenry of North Carolina said voters are not interested in the sex scandal.

"I think voters are going to have a serious choice on election day. And they're not going to decide based on a scandal from an obscure congressman from Florida," he told CNN.

4. Their denials sound like Bart Simpson saying "I didn't do it."
And the party of Karl Rove should know that people remember allegations and accusations a lot more than denials and explanations.

5. Oh please, you guys are still fluffing over 911.
This will so backfire against the GOP! HAHAHA! They are turtles on their backs. All they can do is try the same OLD SHIT they've been doing for decades and it won't work anymore.

Hahahafuckingha!

8. All the people were GOP ! ! ! the teen pages, their parents & their reps.
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 07:16 PM by Divernan
I want to type in all caps because I am shouting at the screen, but I won't.

The GOP warned the 44 pages who were Republicans; nobody warned the 22 pages who were Dems!

So far, Foley has only been reported by GOP pages. I know that Rep. Kingston was elected by Georgia Republicans, and they are arguably the stupidest & most vicious of all the GOP (look what they did to Max Clelland), but maybe someone can explain this to him in words of one syllable, slowly spoken and repeated about 10 frigging times!

9. Uh, no, they didn't all spring them up spontaneously.
The first story covered was the one about the email that wasn't sexually explicit, that was up a week and a half ago. In response, the first instant message session was sent to ABC and it blew up from there.

their base. by attempting to shift the focus from the horror of the situation to a witch-hunt over some kind of conspiracy regarding the timing, they show their paranoia and their lack of humanity regarding the victims. this type of behavior will drive every mother away from them. every single one.

they're totally lost on this issue and they have no time to catch up anymore. they're just slinging, but the wind is blowing it all back in their faces.

the ONLY thing the 'thugs could POSSIBLY do to help their situation is to scream loudly for foley's arrest, to pull him out of treatment and put him behind bars, to root out hastert and every other rotten liar involved in this, and THEN they could try to go after Democrats (although i highly doubt there ever was any conspiracy... perhaps the kid just had a change of heart about being a 'thug, after what foley did to him.)

11. Where's the "trade"?
I haven't heard any Dems firing on the GOPedophiles. Is this another "bipartisan" thing like the Abramoff scandal?

12. for chrissakes, let's just say Dems learned of this
a few months ago and broke it. Why shouldn't they? It would be the only thing to do, for any thinking adult.

But to say the Dems knew in 2003 and waited til now, to win an election is so damn funny. Why wouldn't the Dems (if they were as friggin ruthless as the repukes) have used this during the election of 2004. Why wouldn't we have had this to wave around in the faces of the repukes and the swiftboaters? Hell, I wish we would have known. We could have saved a lot of the pages from Foley's e-mails, but even more important, we might have been able to save a lot of our troops, who lost lives and limbs since 11/04.

Their whole "blame the Democrats" is totally full of holes.
