They are holding the software industry hostage. Their case is a fraud. Novell owns most of those rights anyway.
Note: I usually save the F words for visiting freepers. That's how pissed off I am about this.

3. Put this in a Java compiler |
|
public class Lawsuit
{ public static void main(String args[]) {
System.out.println("SCO claimed rights to parts of Linux OS"); System.out.println("They are money hungry liars who are going to fold"); } }

4. Brief explanation of the case |
|
SCO holds certain IP rights on one version of Unix. Their claim is that IBM, in violation of IP laws and the contract between the two companies, stole code from SCO's version of Unix and put it into Linux. SCO is suing for $3 billion.
Publicly, SCO claims they have found "literally millions" of lines of code and can easily prove that it was IBM who put it in Linux. In court, SCO is telling the judge that they really have no idea what has been taken, and gee golly it sure would be nice if IBM was forced to make SCO's case for them.
The judge today told SCO to go fuck themselves. She said that they must identify "with specificity" to IBM exactly what SCO claims was stolen from Unix. They have exactly 30 days to do so.

5. I have seen people like McBride before... |

in the computer industry. The industry is thick with them. Attracted by the somewhat-old promise of great riches, they are attracted to tech in the same way they were attracted to the music business 40 years ago. They are slimy, they are venal, they are wastes of skin and gravity.
They are sociopaths. One of them owes me $154,000 in back pay and stock.
Yes, they are scum and McBride is one of them.

At ol' SCO. I was working there and recall that IBM and SCO were working together on a 64 bit Os. IIRC Intel was factored in there as well. Seemed like a happy family at the time. Anyway, the thing to remember is that SCO pretty much ceased to be aroung 2000 and were bought out by Caldera. Ironically, the only thing that made them any money was Open Server. That, and also because SCO Unix had better name recognition, Caldera changed the name to The SCO Group, or some such crap. So the SCO you are reading about is not really the SCO of yore. The "real SCO" was, for me anyway, the greatest job I have ever had. All the engineers I worked for were the greatest, and the company treated me very well. I'm sure a lot of the former SCO'ers hate to see it come down like this.
