False alarm at US Embassy

A wide area around the controversial US Embassy in Oslo was evacuated Tuesday night after suspicious sounds, like those emitted by an explosive device, were heard coming from a nearby trash container.

The embassy sits on one of the most heavily trafficked corners on the fringe of downtown, just across from the Royal Palace and Nobel Institute. The busy boulevards were blocked off and occupants of adjacent apartment and office buildings were ordered either to evacuate or remain inside, away from windows.

Police responded with no less than 20 patrol cars and the state of emergency lasted for around two hours, until bomb experts could search the container.

American Embassies are A TARGET around he world. These are the 'Hot Spots' that need constant surveillance; they are a real problem for every country that has a US Embassy or a US Consulate. Because we are so hated right now.

And notice, this is not even in a vulnerable country, like Jordan or Lebanon. This is Cool Calm NORWAY for God's sake.

Now, think about the costs involved with this. Not just the host country, but also the US which has to increase EXPONENTIALLY security costs, surveillance, not to mention the employee turnover because people feel insecure.

And I BET YOU the Norwegian government is sticking the embassy with the Tab.
