U.S. Senate Seat May 'Flip'

In an election for United States Senator from Missouri today, 10/12/06, Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill leads Republican incumbent Jim Talent 51% to 42%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KSDK-TV St. Louis and KCTV-TV Kansas City. Since an identical SurveyUSA poll 4 weeks ago, on 9/14/06, McCaskill has gained 3 points and Talent has lost 5 points. McCaskill's advantage has grown from 1 point to 9 points.

The election is in 26 days, on 11/7/06. Most of the movement in the race comes from Independent voters, who supported Talent by 12 points in September but now support McCaskill by 13 points, a 25-point swing. 91% of Democrats vote Democrat. 87% of Republicans vote Republican.

McCaskill has made big gains among male voters: Talent leads by 1 point among men, a 14-point drop from September. McCaskill leads by 18 points among women, a 2-point gain. McCaskill leads by 50 points among black voters, by 4 among white voters. 69% of those who support Amendment 2, the Stem Cell Initiative, vote for McCaskill. 82% of those who oppose Amendment 2 vote for Talent.

8. Claire McCaskill's a GREAT asset to Missouri, and to the Democratic Party.
If Diebold allows, she should be the next Senator, and should clean up the ugly slime left by Talent, who should NEVER have been there in the first place.

17. Yes, she is! And her debating skills really showed.
She came off as a leader and Talent as a little shithead boy.

I think she's gonna carry the day along with Harold Ford, Jr.

I like these Democrats.

9. Petty, personal observation but, Talent looks like he spent much
of his youth undoing wedgies. It's not right, but I'm guessing he was picked on a lot as a child...

16. HOPE SHE AGREES TO ADOPT ME!
I've watched her in the last two debates on C-Span. She is excellent. McCaskill is now the second out-of -state Dem I've decided to financially support to speak for me in Congress (I live in Utah - 'nuf said.)

Still looking for two more Dems, anywhere in the U.S., to support and who will agree to speak for me - to take me on as a constituent. That means, if I ever have the need to call their office about a bill, they will take my call and not brush me off because I'm not from their state. Sort of an "Adopt a Red State Dem" program.

I lived in MO when Claire lost to young Blunt .... It was a slow car wreck ....

Claire was behind .... and now SLAM BAM ! ..... WAY ahead ......

Are there STILL DUers who run around claiming the Foley scandal wouldnt do anything or go anywhere ? ....

"Give them enough rope ...."

I am SO reluctant to get too optimistic .... but I think it's ok to start letting myself feel it quite possible to see a landslide ......

McCaskill? .... ahead ? ..... YIPPIE ! .....

19. Hopeful, but cautious
Talent has a huge war chest. I listened to the debate on Wednesday evening and Mccaskill was great, pretty much wiping the floor with our esteemed Senator. There is also a stem cell amendment thing on the ballot which may very well be a factor in bringing out the Republican base although I have heard that supporters are polling ahead 60-40% on in at last report. Of course there is also those electronic voting machines which might just "mysteriously" negate the lead on November 7.

20. I don't know about St. Louis....
But Kansas City decided to go with Diebold (stupid, stupid!) and I think they'll be in place in time for this election.

Democrats need a huge turnout from both urban areas in order to win a statewide race - and they need those votes to be counted. I'm not going to rest easy until her lead is big enough to overcome vote tampering.
