Bush campaigns for Republicans in rural Georgia, find lots of empty seats
The Associated Press

Published: October 31, 2006

PERRY, Georgia President George W. Bush spent a second day in a row campaigning in rural Georgia, targeting a shrinking slice of America where Republicans think he still can help their cause in next week's elections.

Bush is spending the final days of the campaign in small town venues, where White House officials hope he can inspire people to vote Republican on Nov. 7.

Polls show Republicans struggling to hold onto power in Congress as voters express dissatisfaction with Bush's policies in the Iraq war and with congressional scandals. Democrats hope to capitalize on those views by winning control of the House of Representatives, where they need to pick up 15 seats, and the Senate, where they need a gain of six. All 435 House seats and 33 of the Senate's 100 seats are at stake.

Bush didn't fill the arena at the Georgia National Fairgrounds on Tuesday — plenty of seats were empty in the back along with nearly half of the vast floor space. But those who came out for the rally were enthusiastic, applauding his calls for tax cuts and against gay marriage. "We don't want Washington Democrats running the House of Representatives," Bush said from a stage decorated with hay bales, pumpkins and a billboard-size American flag.

He acts like anyone who dares disagee with him is equal to being an enemy. A very sick man, indeed.

5. This is the first time in history that an American president
professes such hatred for most of the country he rules. Bush is the President of Republicans, the rest of us are leaderless.

22. "most of the country"?
most of the country doesn't vote, and doesn't pay any attention to politics. They pay their taxes to fund his wars and enlist in his military. I don't think * has any beef with most of the country.

If that wasn't a fundraiser, there was probably a fundraiser scheduled near it.

15. yes, and even that is because of a title
That he stole. When that title is gone, there will no interest whatsoever in him, other than seeing him incarcerated because of his crimes.

I recall reading an article about Reagan after his term was over. This was his first moment as a private citizen. No more Air Force One. The article talked about how not one single citizen came to see him off at the airport. That emphasized to me how much is bestowed on the title.

That is not the way it was with Clinton. Wherever he goes as a former president, he is greeted by enthusiastic crowds.

Ignominy is what happens to these Republican emtpy suits.

I think it is just for soundbites on the news, its getting hard to find places where the crowd would agree with you so much.

28. "Free" being a relative term
The audience may not be charged admission, but Stupidhead's still drawing his government paycheck, and jetting around on the people's dime to campaign against 60% of the electorate.

23. There are two key races that the RNC has been pouring money into
Two Congressional districts are up for re-election this year. In 2004, these two Democrats were the only ones in the entire country to defeat incumbent Republicans. Now, with the prospect of them losing the House, they are trying desperately to take these two back. The two they are targeting are extremely conservative Democrats (far too conservative for me), but they are Democrats who refused to switch parties.

I think it shows the desperation of the national republican party that they send Bush to GA two days in a row - a state that is supposed to be one of his friendly locations.

he is campaigning in rural Georgia to incite the base because he is too much of a liability to bring into any contested areas.

Face it Dubya, you are even a failure as a tyrant.

is that what is really happening is that they are desperate to hold onto their crumbling base, NOT to attract new voters.

Boogie-Man being the the gay marriage issue. It is one of the few favorite tricks Rethugs use to lure voters.

This trick is getting so old.
