Bomb explodes at eBay PayPal Headquarters in (San Jose)
An explosive device left at the eBay-owned PayPal headquarters in San Jose exploded Tuesday night, shattering a plate-glass window on the four-story building.

Some 26 employees were working inside the building at the time of the explosion. They reportedly called 911 after hearing the blast.

"Whatever caused this was pretty strong,' said San Jose Fire Department Capt. Jose Guerrero. "It's tough to break one of these windows."
...
The fire department responded to the building at 2211 North 1st St. at 7:31 pm after being contacted by the building's private alarm company that some windows were broken and several explosions may have occurred inside, according to Guerrero.

One note of caution: This may trigger a new flood of phishing emails (as if they need an excuse) seeking to capitalize on this event, with the usual ruse of asking you for your account info. As always, do not be mislead by such emails. If you need to check your paypal account, type paypal's URL directly into your browser's address line -- DON'T click on links within emails since they may direct you to spoof sites (eg bogus sites which look pretty much exactly like the real thing).

23. That's what I was thinking. PayPal is downright evil.
But, in the end, "it's only money."

And it's never right to kill someone over money.

Now, oil on the other hand...

Oh, and if someone worships the wrong invisible friend...

Or if they hate freedom.

Anyway, bombing PayPal was still wrong.

I'm sorry if someone lost a couple grand when they got ripped-off by a thug when they tried to sell their Laptop and PayPal didn't give a damn.

But bombing them?

Come on!

How true. One of the biggest, most dishonest arbitrage schemes going.

I wonder how much they have given to the repukes?

41. I did too (love them) until I had to seek assistance with a disputed
transaction....

Let's just say a major "lesson in futility and frustration." Probably not enough valium in the world to get me to rehash the whole incident. Just count yourself fortunate you've not had to seek their "intervention" or "assistance."

I still use them on occasion, because frankly there isn't much choice... But I am very judicious.

4. I hope Paypal goes out of business.
The first time, in 2002-2003, I joined the class action lawsuit against them after they repeatedly ripped me off in payments, took money from my bank account without permission, and generally acted like my money belonged to them and they didn't give a shit about me. In the end I got like 12 dollars total out of it (when they stole hundreds) and in the settlement Paypal managed to lawyer their way out of it, paying a totally worthless (for them) 6 or 7 million out to tens of thousands of claimants, without admitting to ANY wrongdoing and with a clause SPECIFICALLY STATING they did NOT have to change their business practises!! ONLY IN BUSH'S AMERICA.

Last week I finally decided to try Paypal again because I needed paypal for ebay (since the two are locked together now and you can't even bid on many auctions without a paypal account!). LITERALLY within 48 hours of signing up my credit card had charges on it that I did not authorize. I did a full security check of everything and narrowed it down to paypal, AGAIN.

14. It's called phishing
and you'll find that some that you receive are not even addressed to you - just using an address similar to your own with a simple variation of a word or maybe just a syllable.
There are lots of sites with tips on "scamming the scammers" for if you've got the time and the inclination to just string them along and have a laugh. This is an example and the pictures really crack me up : http://www.419eater.com/html/john_boko.htm

9. My thought exactly,
The person who did this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent, and should spend many, many years in jail, but in all probability they were screwed royally by Paypal before they did this. The sad thing is the people he hurt had nothing to do with whatever they Paypal to rip him off.

Paypal does not protect consumers, AT ALL.

I won't use it anymore, if I want something from ebay and the vendor won't take a check or regular charge I don't use them.

27. That's true. Conservatives are the ones who resort to terrorism.
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 06:22 PM by darkism
Conservatives are the ones who send anthrax to Democratic senators and Keith Olbermann
Conservatives are the ones who bomb federal buildings, Olympic parks and gay clubs
Conservatives are the ones who kill abortion doctors
Conservatives are the ones who live in "compounds" in Idaho with a stash of artillery inside grain silos

The point? Domestic terrorists tend to be political conservatives.
Because violence and hate is the only language they know.

example: bombing abortion clinics, anthrax mailed to Dems and journalists they disagree with.

39. Heh, I couldn't even get paypal to work
I guess I was lucky, judging from all the responses on this thread. I sold a camera on ebay once, and my buyer said he couldn't pay with his credit card on my paypal account. I called paypal and they said the account was fine. He called paypal and his credit card company and they said everything was fine. Paypal essentially told us to fuck off, that everything was fine with their system even though it didn't work. I was pretty annoyed at the time, but now I realize I might have been lucky.

Or at least it did in 2001. I was a victim of fraud via their site. Paypal eventually took care of the problem, but it took a lot of my personal time & effort to get things cleared up.
