McGavick criticizes Bush over Iraq war
Distancing himself from the president, the latest TV ad by the Republican candidate for the Senate is critical of the progress in Iraq.

By Matthew Daly
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Washington state's Republican U.S. Senate candidate, Mike McGavick, stepped up efforts to distance himself from President Bush by accusing the president of failing to understand voter frustrations about the Iraq war.

"President Bush isn't getting our frustrations. It's time to be decisive - beat the terrorists," McGavick says in a new TV ad running this week. "Partition the country if we have to and get our troops home in victory."

The new ad, which is running statewide, follows recent comments by McGavick that he would have voted against the Iraq invasion if he'd known there were no weapons of mass destruction. McGavick also urged Bush to fire Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

The president on Wednesday repeated his support for Rumsfeld, saying he was doing a "fantastic" job.

It's an odd concept of victory to think we'll "partition the country...and get our troops home" unless he means a victory for the troops and their families to finally be out of harms way. The problems in Iraq aren't going away any time soon and the "sweep it under the rug" strategy is too cowardly to then declare victory. It sounds like a talking-point Saddam Hussein would have used.

1. He goes on criticizing Maria Cantwell (D-WA) for being "vague" in her support for the Iraq War.
The article goes on to tell of him criticizing Maria Cantwell (D-WA) for being "vague" in her support of the Iraq War. He's right - she has been vague. She has deliberately chosen to be vague in spite of many protests. But, does anyone think electing another Republican will change the course? Of course not. Nevertheless, McGavick is running ads telling us to "change the course in Washington" by electing him.

Sorry McGavick. Washingtonians are too smart to fall for your lies. Cantwell, for all her faults, has known to avoid lying. We don't put up with it here.

4. Truth is, that if McGavick was elected...
...he'd go from "a different kind of republican" to same old shit in less than 5 minutes.

2. Partition appeals to the simple minded
especially those that THINK they now have a handle on the Iraq mess.

Ask the Jews and the Palestinians how partition has worked out for them.

The problem is property and jobs and lives spent in some place (and for these people, many of them, that's dozens of generations). Now, because someone draws a line on a map, they are told to pack up and move to be with others of their religion. But what of their possessions, their careers, their shops and factories and so on?

And yet, it is getting so bad with the death squads... perhaps partition is the only solution... but it won't be pretty and it won't be peaceful.

3. .
Cantwell has a good lead in the polls. Not safe yet but way out of the margin of error.
McGavick is just another of those desperate Repubs who has to distance himself from Bush and the Iraq mess because the people are fed up.

Btw: http://www.electoral-vote.com/ is looking good.
Senate: 50 Democrats 49 Republicans 1 tie
House: 241 Democrats 193 Republicans 1 Tie
