No toke about it, Canucks accept pot use for medicinal purposes, expert says
Although Canadians are hardly trading maple leaves for pot leaves, newly published findings suggest Cheech and Chong would feel right at home here.

In a nationwide survey, an overwhelming 93 per cent of Canadians indicated they accept the idea of people legally smoking marijuana for health reasons. Nearly three in four (70 per cent) not only accept the practice but also personally approve of the behaviour.

Support for the overall legalization of marijuana is also strong, with almost half of Canucks giving it a hearty thumbs up the same percentage of people who, in a 2004 Health Canada sponsored survey were found to have smoked cannabis in their lifetime.

snip

Regionally, support for the medical use of marijuana is fairly uniform. Quebec is most approving at 96 per cent, followed by British Columbia at 94 per cent, Ontario at 93 per cent, the Prairies at 92 per cent, and Atlantic Canada at 90 per cent.

"Support for the overall legalization of marijuana is also strong, with almost half of Canucks giving it a hearty thumbs up the same percentage of people who, in a 2004 Health Canada sponsored survey were found to have smoked cannabis in their lifetime."

Isn't the solution self-evident?

3. Our government actually grew it for medical use
It was cultivated in "a secret location". Actually, it was an abandoned mine in Flin Flon,Sask.

But the government weed was almost universally trashed as poor quality, so patients continued to seek out the homegrown stuff.

I've smoked around cops (Pink Floyd concert. What're they gonna do?) and I've smoked with cops (off-duty, natch).

No big deal here. The only problem is the the bikers seem to control all the good stuff.

7. Always glad to hear
positive news on pot use but....
in America where hypocricy reigns on the subject, pot will never be legalized because the revenues generated by its black market status are used to fund black budget projects just like the relly hard drugs are.

Meanwhile, its flagrant use will be endlessly joked about on television, while thousands of harmless tokers lives will be ruined for the offense. What other reason is there for supressing a harmless herb that has such a long history of use in human history?
Oh, well, I did read once that the CIA found that marijuana users were the least susceptible to "brain washing techniques" (what ever that means). But lets not succumb to any conspiricy type thinking here....

10. I would bet U.S. support is also very high
I don't know if there is an equivalent survey out there - the current U.S. government would hush it up, though, to the best of their ability.

12. Support for legalization is nearing 50% on the West Coast.
Not as high in other parts of the country. Colorado and Nevada voters will be voting on marijuana legalization initiatives Tuesday.

11. WooHoo
Something I can post on as a libertarian and not get slammed! :) :)

When you add up the costs to society and the complete lack of benefit of the drug war, the problems with current policy are myriad. I can only hope that we come to our senses and stop putting millions of people in jail for victimless crimes.
