Bush packs airport for campaign rally (3,500)
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 11:28 PM by NVMojo
ELKO — Light, intermittent showers couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of roughly 3,500 county residents who turned out to be part of history and hear President George Bush stump for Republican candidates at Elko Regional Airport Thursday afternoon.

Bush’s message: Vote Republican or risk a Democratic-controlled House and Senate that will raise taxes, confirm activist judges that legislate from the bench — and make America vulnerable to terrorists.

The president said he was proud to appear in Elko to campaign for incumbent GOP Sen. John Ensign, District 2 congressional candidate Dean Heller and the man Heller hopes to replace in the House, gubernatorial candidate Jim Gibbons.

The partisan audience cheered wildly several times during Bush’s speech, which featured comments that appealed to westerners. “Thanks for coming,” he said. “It’s nice to be in a part of the country where cowboy hats outnumber ties.

The last president to show up in Elko was Herbert Hoover and the country went to hell in a handbasket right afterwards. Of course, Bush doesn't care much for history ...

4. nah, they had even more show up when Cheney was there 3 years ago
and then, back when they weren't troughfeeders, they had 10,000 marching down the main drag protesting the forest service.

6. 5 active brothels...
a national cowboy poetry contest every year and more according to wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elko,_Nevada

" As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 16,708 people, 6,200 households, and 4,216 families residing in the city. The population density was 445.2/km² (1,153.3/mi²). "

So... did they really get half the households to the airport or did they just count 350 supporters 10x?

Just asking...

10. katsy, less than 12 miles outside of Elko is a homeowner's association,
Spring Creek. Over 10,000 live there.

I just talked to a friend from a tribe there in Elko and he works for the county. He said all the adults who work for the County Library took the day off to go see Bush. Nevada tax dollars at work.

7. No way. Were they pre-approved? Did they take the * pledge?
They didn't just allow anyone in, did they? Or maybe they are so desperate they paid some strays so as to create the illusion of drawing a crowd.

16. It's hard to believe there's so much stupidity in one place.
It's a wonder Elko doesn't spontaneously combust from
all that pent-up stupidity!
