Nun who helped at Ground Zero dies
November 3, 2006

AIKEN, S.C. - A nun who said her lungs were permanently damaged after she spent six months at ground zero following the Sept. 11 attacks has died.

Sister Cynthia Mahoney died Wednesday at her Aiken home, the Shellhouse Funeral Home said.

No cause of death was given, but Mahoney, 54, had said in several interviews that she thought poisoned air where the World Trade Center towers fell gave her a deadly mix of asthma and pulmonary and digestive problems.

Mahoney had asked that results of her autopsy be used in a class action lawsuit by ground zero workers who said the air around the lower Manhattan site sickened them.

Mahoney spent every day for six months after the 2001 attacks as a chaplain and an emergency medical technician.

Bush can fly back to DC in the middle of the night for a brain dead woman, yet the people who gave their lives and their health to work in the pit at the WTC don't even make a ripple on his radar.

18. Oh, I don't know about that.
We, here in NJ, know one true thing about our former Governoretta: She ain't the brightest bulb in god's chandelier. She is a woman who would have given her best service to Nj by remaining in Oldwick, drinking lunch every day with the rest of The Ladies Who Lunch at The Old Tewksbury Inn, and going into the Wednesday matinees in NYC with them in a limo, armed with a thermos of Martinis.

She left this state in something of a fiscal shambles and her administration was something of a low-flame ethical train wreck.

Nah, she wasn't that bright. She couldn't or wouldn't see that she was merely a vehicle for a lot of really crooked schemes.

But being ambitious, she has always done what she has been told to do.

4. What is worse. . .
the uncounted victims from Desert Storm, those noble first responders on 9/11 dieing and suffering, the under reported Katrina victims, the innumerable casualties one both sides of the Iraq conflict. . .?

"Culture of life". . ."family values". . . all empty rhetoric.

The on going carnage is mind boggling.

RIP

Forgotten by the public and the Government, Left to die in a horriable way, basically by suffication as their lungs fail them. And the true testament to these brave men and women? They would all do it again tomorrow if the call goes out

11. Bush/Connaughton/Whitman willfully condemned thousands to death.
Whitman's EPA analysis/warnings of toxic air at Twin Towers and surrounding areas of lower Manhattan were not released until they had been substantively gutted by lawyer James Connaughton, Chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. The report, as doctored by Connaughton with the purpose of getting Wall Street up and running again ASAP, lied about the number and results of tests measuring toxic substances in the air, and represented it was not dangerous for people to return to the area.
As a result of this man's lies, thousands and thousands and thousands of people returned to the area - people who went back to work, people who returned to their apartments, children who returned to schools, volunteers from all over the country who spent months in the cleanup. I think history will show that this action by this one man, Connaughton, will have resulted in the slow and painful deaths of many times more people than were killed in the collapse of the towers. And as an attorney who had started out his career representing workers who died long and painful deaths from asbestosis, Connaughton knew that his actions were a death sentence.

13. Bless you, sister...
Now that is a nun of the "old traditions.." Even in death, she is trying to help others. How sad that we hear so little of true Christians like her and so much of the hypocrits that form the Xian "right."

17. People like Sister Cynthia Mahoney
are what christianity is supposed to be about. She has certainly earned her heavenly reward.

Matthew 6:55" And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

16. CBC's "Toxic Legacy: A CLOUD of dust " is a must see!

Toxic Legacy: A CLOUD of dust
On a sunny morning in September 2001, more than twenty seven hundred people died violently in events of unimaginable horror.

Another killer was unleashed that day. A slow silent poison that now threatens thousands of lives. the toxic dust and gases created by the disintegrating towers. An enormous compression wave pushed through the streets and into buildings with the force of a hurricane.

Dr. David Prezant, the deputy medical officer of the New York City Fire Department remembers, "This sunny morning was pitch black. The ability to see in front of you was impossible. The ability to breathe was impossible and yet there was complete total silence." The dust swallowed lower Manhattan and spread outward in a giant cloud. As everyone fled, rescue workers raced into the toxic brew.

Paramedic Bill Dahl was among the many who rushed to the scene. "Within five minutes you couldn't see out of your eyes because they were caked. You found yourself spitting it out, trying to clear your nose and your mouth any way you could. When you breathe it in it burns your throat, it burns your nose, it burns your eyes and everybody coughed." That night Dahl says heavy winds turned the area into a giant sandblaster.

.... There are clips to watch at the link!
