Five U.S. troops die in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Another four U.S. soldiers and a U.S. Marine have died in Iraq, the military said in statements Friday.

The deaths bring to 2,824 the number of U.S. soldiers who have died since the war in Iraq began.

Three of the Multi-National Division-Baghdad, soldiers were killed Thursday when the vehicle they were riding in was hit by a roadside bomb. No further details about the incident were released.

The fourth Multi-National Division-Baghdad soldier died in a "non-combat-related incident" north of Baghdad, the military said.

10. Bingo.
And if the Dems win next week, the Iraq carnage will be blamed on that. If the GOP steals the election, another scapegoat will be trotted out. Mark my words.

5. A question about "soldiers" and "marines"..
What's the difference. I mean, is a marine a soldier or not?

13. If you are in the Navy on the ground in Iraq you are probably a "Dirt Sailor."
"Dirt Sailors" and "Dirt Airmen," enlisted personnel who joined the Navy or Air Force and ended up in land combat in the Bu$h Wars, are the victims of one of the most egregious bait-and-switch scams in the history of the US military. It is just another aspect of the back-door draft into the meat-grinder that will forever be the legacy of "Sonny" Bu$h.

BTW: There are some Navy medics ("corpsmen") assigned to Marine ground combat units in Iraq. But that has long been the case in other wars, too. Most sailors killed in Viet Nam (other than pilots) were corpsmen assigned to Marine units engaged in bloody combat in that meat-grinder.

15. No...
if you are in the Navy, you are technically a "squid" or "rustpicker".

Seriously, while everybody has been focusing on Kerry and Haggard, more of our people (and Iraqis) die for nothing.

Have you watched the "news" on MSM lately? What used to be human-interest fillers are now "news" stories. Nobody cares anymore.

Whether the Dems win or lose, this country has got to rediscover its soul.

8. This Civilian's Attempt
I usually think of a "Soldier" as being a member of the US Army. A "Marine" is a member of the United States Marine Corps which is part of the Navy. The Marines have traditionally had roles protecting ships and securing landing areas for moving troops and equipment inland from the sea. Navy people are "Sailors" and Air Force are "Airmen". Some of my relatives have been Marines and you don't want to call one a "Soldier".

21. Thanks; that helps.
It occurs to me that some of us live in areas of the country where there are alot of huge military bases, and some of us live in parts of the country where we don't know a soldier from a Marine.

14. Pile 'em higher and higher!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

Three U.S. soldiers, 4 Marines killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Three U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad and four Marines were killed in "enemy action" in Iraq's western Anbar province on Thursday, the U.S. military said on Friday.

It said the three soldiers in Baghdad died when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in the east of the capital.

The four Marines died in two separate incidents in Anbar but the military gave no further details.

The military also announced early on Friday that a soldier had died in a non-combat related incident north of Baghdad.
