Baptist Convention told: Muslims 'are here to take over our country'
CAPE GIRARDEAU — The prophets of the Hebrew scriptures are known for their warnings of doom and gloom, but even Jeremiah — arguably the gloomiest Old Testament sage — would have tipped his hat to the Rev. David Clippard at the Missouri Baptist Convention's annual meeting here this week.

In his opening address Monday night at Southeast Missouri State's Show Me Center, Clippard sounded off about a number of issues facing the state's 600,000 members, from a dwindling number of young churchgoers to the evils of embryonic stem cell research to falling contributions for international mission trips.

Clippard is the executive director of the state Convention, a fellowship of 2,000 congregations who cooperate with the 16-million member Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the United States. Baptist churches that are members of the Southern Baptist Convention operate autonomously, but cooperate on many issues. Sen. Jim Talent, R.-Mo., and Richard Land, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, are scheduled to address the meeting today.

Clippard reserved his strongest words for what he said he considered paramount for all Americans: the threat of Islam. "Today, Islam has a strategic plan to defeat and occupy America," he told the 1,200-strong crowd of delegates (called "messengers"), pastors and lay people, many of whom cheered his words.

And the history and provenance of that message over the last 40 or so years, there is a direct line from the worst of the Christian Identity Movement and The John Birch Society, to right-wing hate groups to militias that were, and are, worst of breed.

They are peddling the same crap, with a little tarting up. Ain't a dime's worth of difference.

The difference is that the repukes grabbed the tail of that tiger to gain power.

Clippard said Tuesday that his message was really about love.

"I don't hate Islamic people," he said. "We need to love these folks, go after them and love them, one at a time. We need to crucify them with Christ."

WTH??? This sounds like something a joyful believer in the Inquisition would have proclaimed, as he heated his tongs, tightened the ropes on his rack, and filled jugs of water for one of the original versions of "waterboarding."

We need to crucify these "Christian people" with the truth, and maybe some garlic, just in case.

20. Sorry to interrupt the Christian pile-on here, but Crucified with Christ means...

While I don't agree with his first statement about Muslims taking over America (although a very few would prefer that we were a state governed by sharia); that comment doesn't mean that they want to go out and start crucifying Muslims. Sometimes Context is a good thing right?

======================================================================

"I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me." (Galatians 2:20).

"God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing nor uncircumcision, but a new creature" (Galatians 6:14,15).

=======================================================================

We must continually die to self. If we are to live as God wants us to live then we must grasp this truth and hold onto it. We must see ourselves crucified with Christ. What does that mean?

Well it means among other things that we have put an end of trying to please God through our own good works. It also means that we have accepted that we cannot fulfil the law as demanded by God.

It means that we fully accept that another has pleased God on our behalf. That same person has also fulfilled God's law in very detail on our behalf. Justice has been satisfied through the sacrifice of the Lamb of God for sinners. His blood speaketh better things than that of Abel.

The above was taken from a UK website called apples of gold to be fair. I didn't read all of their content but this part was on the money as I have been taught growing up.

25. Sorry, too late. The quote may be out of context, but a Muslim
reading this is going to interpret it as "either convert to Christianity or die like Christ". No amount of explaining by you or I will make it different for them.

As it is, Muslims here increasingly feel persecuted by these fundie clowns, and I fear many of them do believe the fundies are hell-bent on converting or exterminating every one of them.

I understand that sentence may be a "Bible-speak" or "Bible-code" phrase; unfortunately, it has a different meaning for most of us not involved in their cult.

Sorry, but that sentence by Clippard just threw more gasoline on the fire.

Maybe when Christians are speaking in situations where they know they'll be quoted in the national media, they should cut back on the jargon. Whatever they may think it means, those of us outside the loop hear "crucify" and think of crucifixions.

45. "Christian pile-on" ---gosh, love to martyr yourself much???
In the first place, I don't really give a rat's ass about some obscure interpretation of two even more obscure Bible verses, okay? In the second place, my own interpretation of those obscure Bible verses is that they are describing an inner-directed process for an individual, and not some ominous-sounding activity directed at non-believers.

54. First of all you quote Paul who never met Jesus or was among his disciples
Second, James, who was Jesus's own brother, publicly rebuked Paul's dangerous and heretical teaching of "justification by faith," when he wrote that faith without works was a dead faith.

As to the Southern Baptists, they are the same group that wants to save us Jews by converting us to their homophobic and misogynist version of religion.

The common danger we all face is religious extremism in all its permutations. Whether we speak of Christianity, Islam, or Judaism, the three major monotheistic religions are under assault by extremists in their midst.

60. If to "Crucify with Christ" is an internal change, then how is this
recommendation going to be accomplished externally by the CHristian? Is the pastor saying that they have to accept that the Muslims might be pleasing God? It doesn't fit with the context of "The muslims are trying to take over the US." So I am still lost. Maybe it is too early in the morning for me.

So-called "Islam" is a culture of one billion people, many of whom want foreign troops out of Iraq, but I don't think most muslims give a fig about what Americans do in their own country, they have their own countries to sort out.
