43. Wow
Soooo funny.
And my favorite part is the escort himself!

Can't you just see the symbolism? In-the-closet, self-hating, gay clergyman needs some big, strong, gay man to hold him, make him feel loved...

I am not ridiuculing the true angst that many religious people go through when facing their sexuality; I can't imagine how bad it can get. I had the luxury of being raised Catholic in California, and my very devout parents did not fill me with anti-gay messages, so coming to terms with my sexuality had at least one negative compoonent removed, but when people like this who actually agitate for anti-gay laws, etc. get caught, it is just such, true, delicious irony.

No emotional attachment and very little talking...I don't think Ted was looking for love or approval-- just sex, which is even more dubious IMO given Ted's claim to fame!

132. Hence, the campaign to out such people.
A tactic I heartily approve of. There are some absolute fucknuts on this board who, for whatever misguided, counterproductive reason, seem to think we should allow these hypocritical assholes to continue on in the closet because outing them "isn't polite" or some other such nonsense.

And nonsense it is. These people deserve to be dragged kicking and screming out of the closet and into the cold, hard light of day where they belong. Or would some people here have us gay progressives remain ignorant of such people working against them?

Can we say, "ulterior motives"?

Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 01:57 PM by RamboLiberal
But I was thinking from the voice tapes that the meth buy was true.

Here's what I think is key as to gay sex in this admittance by Haggard. Haggard says he bought the meth from a gay escort, 49-year-old Michael Jones, after contacting him for a massage.

Uh huh. Is Jones a legitimate massage therapist? If not, then this is like a heterosexual guy who just happens to stop at one of those roadside massage parlors then when caught says he "only stopped to get a massage - not sex."

39. The 'masseur' claims it was a 3 year relationship.
Haggard has admitted buying meth, which makes him a felon. If he wants to clear his name regarding the sexual relationship, he might be wise to take a polygraph. Somehow I doubt that is going to happen. What does a good pastor's wife do when she discovers her hubby spends his money on meth and male prostitutes?

50. I travel the country for business
and get massages all the time. Both from men and women. I've never contacted a spa or massage therapist to make an appointment and happened to morph a buying meth conversation.

Who the fuck does this guy think he is and how dumb does he think people are? Jesus, admit your sins and repent. That might be the worst excuse I've ever heard for screwing up...much worse then the "I never inhaled" uttered by Bill Clinton.

I bought meth from a gay escort after contacting him about a massage but I never got the massage and I threw away the meth but not sure where.

Isn't lying a sin (commandment??)

that they are not admissable in courtrooms, so i would not put much faith in them, either way.

It should be very easy to determine from other facts (as well as the videotapes) whether Jones is telling the truth. As you say it would be interesting to know about the license and how they originally made arrangements for a "massage". As someone else said, wouldn't most people like Haggard be uncomfortable receiving a same-sex "legitimate" massage from someone who is gay? And, after three years, Jones ought to be able to provide some very clear details about private parts that even a masseur, if legitimate, would not have seen or not observed closely enough to be able to testify about them now. And why not tell your wife if you are being given legitimate massages? She would certainly be supportive of ways of reducing stress, maintaining good health, etc.

I haven't read this story, but I can surmise that someone got pissed off. And I assume it wasn't Haggard. Or someone showed up with a boatful of money to offer the 'escort'.

As for his wife? She is not in the dark. Do you think he can perform at home? Oh, yee of little faith.

134. The escort (Jones) said he was upset when he realized who TH
was, and that TH was working hard to deny the rights to gay people, that it was hypocritical, etc. He said that, after thinking about it a long time, decided on his own, without intervention from other people or other groups, to speak out. I think Jones did say he timed it because he wanted to influence the elections because of his beliefs about how wrong the poltics were. But that doesn't mean as some have said (and they are real, not straw people :-)) that Democrats or anyone else even knew about this in advance, let alone influenced him.

Certainly there must be very good reasons to believe Jones, if the church acted this quickly to get rid of their influential leader.

Although I don't feel I have enough evidence to know what to make of what TH's wife knew, so I don't know whether to have some sympathy for her on that point, I do know that she profited from the exploitation of many people's ignorance. She knew she was not living in a shack and she knew how they got their money. The people I have unqualified sympathy for in this case are their five children, who had no choice in the matter.

135. The quick move by
the church is quite impressive. Thanks for enlightening me on the details. Contrast this move to the Catholic church who aid and abet harmful behavior. In this case, no innocents, other than the children you mention, were affected. That's the good thing. I have long believed that the ones most vocal about denying gay rights themselves have closeted desires. Otherwise, wtf? Let people love who they want. Moral high horses make me sick. Kudos to the church in this case.

58. REALLY, REALLY PIG FUCKING STUPID, AND HE IS RIGHT
Read their message board. They are all making excuses for him and embracing the 'failed' polygraph test, which is akin to failing a "Ouija Board" game.

Religion weakens the mind, and the weak minded seek religion. (notice: NOT saying spirituality is the same) It is a habit injurious to the mind of the user.

Being religious asks you to suspend all of the faculties a person has to believe an impossible lie. So, if you can swallow that one, you can swallow the one about the pastor who buys crank from a gay bodybuilder, but only goes to the man for legitimate massages and throws the meth away afterward. I have to say, believing that is a MUCH smaller jump than buying the invisible man in the sky controlling everything bullshit.

ANYTHING that requires someone to suspend logic for belief will hold society's evolution back.

Just imagine if science, art and humanities had not had to fight this silly mythology every step of the way.

And just imagine how many libraries, schools, food pantries and after school programs we could build with all of the resources pissed away on churches teaching a narrow 'interpretation' of a book of old myths in order to justify their hatreds and isms.

(We need a stepping down off of the soap box smilie) Submitter stepping down now.

Where's the blue dress when we need it?

And I wonder which questions the hooker tested as being deceptive on... jeez, the guy is at the top of the national news, hard to say what's flitting through his mind at any particular moment.

Too bad he took the lie detector before the audio of the answering machine messages was released.

Then one more thing: if Haggard initially contacted him for a massage, I'd like to see the guy's ad that drew him.

not marketing to hotels, why would a hotel refer him?

Plus, think about it: you meet a massage therapist once and during that visit agree to buy drugs from him? Doesn't sound like something a guy in the clergy would do... much more likely that he knew the guy better than that.

20. More from the Rocky Mt. News>>>>>>>>>>
Embattled minister Ted Haggard this morning admitted receiving a massage from the Denver man who claims to have exchanged sex for money with the Colorado Springs church leader for three years.

Haggard was driving out of his home with his wife Gayle and three of his five children when he gave a brief interview to a gathering of reporters.

(snip)

Haggard said he was referred to Jones for a massage by a hotel in Denver. The minister said he travels to Denver to write books.

Haggard drew a silent stare from his wife when he told the gathered reporters that he received a massage from Jones.

Maybe, just maybe the Holy Spirit is in control of Pastor Ted. Jesus was silent before the Sanhedrin, He trusted the Father to justify Him. I understand your doubt. I really don't have any, but that doesn't mean I am right. I get the sense you would like to have your fears proved wrong. It is my hope they are

Apparently Ted has not taken to heart the old adage, "When you are in a hole, stop digging." Does he realize he has just admitted to a criminal act, possession of a controlled substance? I love this part also:

"Haggard said he was pleased that his accuser failed portions of the polygraph test."

Ok, Teddy, how would you do on a polygraph? Sounds as if we are down to quibbling about details, not?

44. Anyone know of any "fundie" reactions?
I hate to go over to Freeper-ville to see if they are buying any of this bullshit about buying meth one time only from a gay hookker in a hotel room because he was only there for a massage ~~ I just took a shower and the last place I really wish to go is around that place.

But seriously...can anyone in his/her right mind buy bullshit like this? If any of the Freepers are accepting this bullshit story, it just goes to prove they are totally 100% out of this freaking minds.

I mean, I love Bill Clinton, but as a child of the 60s I KNOW that he had to have inhaled. Matter of fact, I would have liked him even better ~~ if that is possible ~~ if he had just come out and admitted smoking pot. If anyone thinks that Haggard did not use meth and did not engage in sex and went to that hotel room specifically for the sex and the drugs...??? How STUPID can anyone be?!?!?!?! He is "patronizing" Jones for THREE years??? Sure...riiiiiiiight...total bullshit, IMO. He went to a gay male hooker who deals meth for THREE FREAKING YEARS for totally legit reasons consistent with <gag> the teachings of Christ.

Oh, pleeeeeeeeeee-zuh!! :eyes:

The masochist in me... I love the anti-gay rants. The more I get the word out there how bad they are, the less GOP apologists can cover for the hatred in their base...

Anyway.
Right now, the posts are running heavy in the "sin brings us all down" mode, with several posters declaring that since they personally have never heard of him, he's not that important to Christians, AND of course, the winning concept is "it's all part of the MSM's plot to help the GOP."
Oh, and of course, several are displaying that trademark Christianist value: compassion. Already, some are using derogatory terms for gay people, saying they should have known based on his clothes choice, and other "turn on the deviant immediately"-type comments.

Answering my own question...YES, the "Rev" Ted Haggard is one of the fraudulent "evangelicals" who embraced "global warming" and declared in October 2004 that mankind has "a sacred responsibility to steward the Earth and not a license to abuse the creation of which we are a part." Haggard called the environment "a values issue." James Dobson and Chuck Colson said that Haggard had circulated a draft paper calling for the Bush administration to support mandatory limits on carbon dioxide emissions.

I hope this commie faggot fraud rots in hell.

"Haggard is a firm supporter of President George W. Bush, and is often credited with rallying evangelicals behind Bush during the 2004 election. Jeff Sharlet reports that Haggard "talks to… Bush or his advisers every Monday" and opines that "no pastor in America holds more sway over the political direction of evangelicalism…"

Quotes:

"George W. Bush will be known as the man who stood up to Islamic fundamentalism being used to tyrannize their own people, so that in another hundred years, in the Islamic world, he'll be viewed as a great liberator"

"Evangelical Christians affirm the NAE’s Declaration of Marriage and proclaim marriage to be a sacred institution between one man and one woman. The defense of marriage and the family will continue to be an emphasis of the NAE and its member churches.”

120. Jones: Haggard snorted meth during sexual encounters
http://www.denverpost.com/ci_4597552

Embattled minister Ted Haggard admitted buying methamphetamine from a male prostitute today but denied ever using the drug or having sex with him.

The prostitute, Michael Jones, a 49-year-old gay bodybuilder who claims he had a three-year, sex-for-pay arrangement with Haggard, responded that Haggard should come clean, admit the affair and move on with his life.

When asked his reaction to Haggard's claim he threw the meth away, Jones scoffed, "It's just like Clinton, who said he didn't inhale."

Jones said Haggard didn't use meth the first year of their meetings, but started taking it about two years ago. He said Haggard snorted the meth every time they had sex.

"This is ridiculous," Jones said. "Yesterday, he didn't even know me. Today, he admits buying meth but never using it. Who's more credible?

I'm not religious, but I recognize "Thou shalt have no gods before me" when I see it. Jeebers.

124. One can only imagine the beating that poor man's anus took.

Thirty days a month Pastor Ted was repressing his drives. Lusting, craving, wanting to get back to the hotel room where he is free, but at the same time hating himself every moment. Then that one day of the month comes around, and all the pressure gets released in a frenzied, drugged out, man-on-man lust explosion.

That poor prostitute probably didn't know what him him.

130. I'll have to defer to some of our gay members....
But I think that Haggard was a catcher, not a pitcher!

trying to deny other's rights and freedoms, I would not CARE!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- Evangelical pastor Ted Haggard confessed on Sunday to a "lifelong" sexual problem, and said he was "a deceiver and a liar," in a letter read to his New Life Church.

"There is part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it all my life," he said in the letter.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/05/haggard.allegations/

His real sin is not the sexual lifestyle. He nailed it, 'deceiver and a liar' and out to squash anyone who lives in the open and doesn't skulk around. That is the real offense.
