Army Recruiters Accused of Misleading Students to Get Them to Enlist
Colonel Says Incidents Are the Exception, Not the Rule

Nov. 3, 2006 — An ABC News undercover investigation showed Army recruiters telling students that the war in Iraq was over, in an effort to get them to enlist.

ABC News and New York affiliate WABC equipped students with hidden video cameras before they visited 10 Army recruitment offices in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

"Nobody is going over to Iraq anymore?" one student asks a recruiter.

"No, we're bringing people back," he replies.

"We're not at war. War ended a long time ago," another recruiter says.

...

But Col. Robert Manning, who is in charge of U.S. Army recruiting for the entire Northeast, said that new recruits were likely to go to Iraq.

2. Been going on forever
My best friend in HS, Jay, enlisted in the Navy with the understanding that he would learn to be a jet mechanic. He is a mechanically talented person with a near genius IQ. After two years he was still washing planes and told them to stuff it. They said "You can't leave yet." and he said, 'I can after my next drug test."

3. How can anyone be so dumb that they would not know that
they were going to Iraq if they enlisted in the Army. Maybe Kerry was right after all.

9. If any kid falls for these lies - and I know they do
then Kerry's faux pas is correct(I know Kerry was talking about *). Shame on these recruiters and any recruiter telling kids this needs their ass shipped to Iraq where the "war is over"

11. The sky is blue. Water is wet. Recruiters lie.
This is news to who exactly?

I had recruiters promising me the world back when I was young and invincible, and I didn't buy it then either.

12. The Army recruiter I saw was honest
Stopped the interview halfway-through, said he couldn't take me because of the medication I was taking. Then again, this was Nov.2002, and I don't think they were scrounging for recruits back then. But he wasn't the deceiving type, that's for sure.

22. Before we judge
Who gives the recruiters their orders on how to get someone to enlist?
I have a feeling they come from the same sick people who ordered certain very disgusting torture in the prisons. Just say and do anything so we dont't need a draft! After all Bush and his cronies are in charge one way or another, so I wouldn't be too hasty in blaming thre recruiters.
