Reichert bragged about getting finger-waving bus driver fired

U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert bragged at a Republican Party picnic last summer that the day after a school bus driver flipped off President Bush, he called the district's superintendent, leaving picnic-goers with the impression that he was responsible for getting the driver fired.

That differs from a version of the story told by school district officials and Reichert's staff this week: that Reichert didn't speak to the superintendent for weeks, and that by the time he did, the bus driver had already been fired.

"And as the motorcade went by, the president and I drove by on I-5, the president was having a great time. He was waving at everybody, he waved at the kids. He got the biggest kick out of the kids leaning out the window to say hello to the president of the United States.

"The sad part of it is though, we got to the last bus - and I won't tell you which school district this was - the bus driver flipped the president off."

The audience groaned.

"So the very next day, you know what I did? I called the superintendent of that school district and that bus driver no longer works for that school," Reichert, a former King County sheriff, said to applause. "That's the old sheriff part of me still around."

into detail about the lack of competency of reichert
and the other bunch of losers who allowed all of those
women to be murdered.

11. Hey, Bush -- want to look really cool? Insist the driver be rehired ...

Bush has repeatedly joked about how people give him the finger. Part of his "self-deprecating", "regular guy" image -- but he could easily score some points by following through on it and writing a nice letter right now. It would put the driver into the awkward position of being grateful (!), and if he did it right, Reichert and the school board wouldn't lose face and there would be a ton of positive publicity.

I normally don't give free advice to Karl Rove, but I'm so confident they won't listen to me that I'm putting this out there.

I remember having such a sense of bafflement over the way Bush treated Cindy Sheehan the first time she came to the ranch gate. Like you, I thought if Rove was half the genius people think he is, he would have had Bush put on an act as a gentleman. It would have been so easy and would have actually made Bush look good if he had sent out some water or even invited her up to the front porch for some ice tea.

But no, all any of them seem to know how to do is act like thugs, contemptuous of the common folk.

They're so arrogant and lazy, they can't even be bothered putting on their masks anymore. I'm sure they know how to play "good cop/bad cop" (or "apologetic reasonable boss vs. rude underling"), in order to discredit their critics and avoid blame. They used it long enough to sneak Bush past a lot of voters' scam-detection radar earlier, like when he did his aw-shucks little-ol'-me routine so anybody who asked questions about his background (like Ann Richards and Al Gore) was made out to be some kind of elitist bully.
