Tennessee votes early in record numbers
Tennessee votes early in record numbers

By LUCAS L. JOHNSON II, Associated Press Writer
Fri Nov 3, 3:38 PM ET

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Far more Tennessee voters cast their ballots early this year than in any other non-presidential election, and an election official Friday gave credit to the contentious U.S. Senate race between Republican Bob Corker and Democrat Harold Ford Jr.

Final figures show that more than 867,000 ballots were cast during the early voting period — more than a quarter of the 3.3 million active registered voters the state reported in June.
Final figures show that more than 867,000 ballots were cast during the early voting period — more than a quarter of the 3.3 million active registered voters the state reported in June.

The early vote total was a 49 percent increase over the more than 580,000 early ballots cast in the 2002 midterm elections.

"The Senate race and all the advertising with it has spurred people to go vote," said state election coordinator Brook Thompson.

1. Sounds like there are a lot of angry people out there
who are very, very motivated to vote.

Why don't I think they're all GOP automatons?

2. I'd love to think you're right but...
...I early voted and my county is a overwhelmingly GOP-favoring stronghold. The wait at 10:30am on Thursday was about 1 hr 45 min.

I hope Ford can pull this out but I'm worried.

6. Either that
or there a lot of white people afraid of a black man becoming a senator from their state.

Racism is evidently effective in the state. How else would Corker not be hurt by the racist ads?

7. Early voting has been heavy in NM, too
and I'm hoping white people are voting to throw out a white woman (Wilson)) in favor of a brown woman (Madrid).

5. Record African American Turnout in TN will sink Corker!
The polls would be meaningless.
