Army general issues appeal to keep military ranks filled (AJC)

Here's a little something to show all your wingnut "friends" in the 101st Fighting Keyboardists who are happiest when people they don't know are fighting in wars they rabidly support.

Army general issues appeal to keep military ranks filled

By Ron Martz
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 11/04/06

Americans need to get serious about the war against international terrorism and start encouraging more young men and women to join the military, a top Army general said Friday.

Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, commander of the First Army based at Fort Gillem in Forest Park, said in a speech at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Decatur that many people in the United States tend to let the events of their everyday lives overshadow the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We need to remind people we are at war," Honoré said. (SNIP)

But because of the nature of the enemy, he added, it is important for Americans to understand what is at stake for the nation and to make concerted efforts to keep the ranks filled.

"We can't have a part of America say, 'Yes, but not my son or daughter.'"

If the name General Honoré rings a bell, it may be because he's the Army officer dispatched to New Orleans after Katrina:

A man of a thousand one-liners, Honoré has told soldiers to keep their guns down: "This isn't Iraq." Aides-de-camp says he knows how to cut through the thickets of famously murky Louisiana politics. At a recent staff meeting here at Camp Shelby, he growled, "We're not stuck on stupid." It became the saying of the day, written on a bulletin board.

1. Can't keep lowering the quotas forever, General.
Lowering the quotas doesn't fill the ranks, does it General?

Never did make up last year's 10,000 recruit shortfall, now did we?

Tens of thousands of troops being extended on stop-loss because no replacements.

What gives, Mr. General man?

Why aren't the freepers flocking to sign up to protect us from terrorists?

With the new lowered standards, I'm sure even many freepers are qualified.

Of course, most would wash out in basic training, but a few might make it.

I wonder how many brand new 42-year old recruits they have gotten.

5. I put in 21 years - proudly
Now anytime some kid asks me about the service, I simply say, "Are you outta your freakin' mind?"

Anyway, I'm still waiting for any member of the Bush jackal pack to sign up.

12. Time for a Country Joe & The Fish reunion tour:
The Fish Cheer & I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag
Gimme an F!
F!
Gimme an I!
I!
Gimme an S!
S!
Gimme an H!
H!
What's that spell ?
FISH!
What's that spell ?
FISH!
What's that spell ?
FISH!

Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on generals, let's move fast;
Your big chance has come at last.
Gotta go out and get those reds —
The only good commie is the one who's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Huh!

Well, come on Wall Street, don't move slow,
Why man, this is war au-go-go.
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade,
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Vietnam.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.
