MANAGUA, Nicaragua (Reuters) - The United States has kicked up a new storm in Nicaragua, one of its Cold War battlefields, over its efforts to derail former Marxist revolutionary Daniel Ortega's latest bid to return to power.

In the final stages of the November 5 election race, a string of U.S. officials have publicly voiced concerns about Ortega, saying a victory for him could hit U.S. aid and investment.

Many Nicaraguans are fuming at what they say are blatant attempts to scare them away from voting for Ortega, whose Sandinista rebel army came to power in 1979 and fought U.S.-funded Contra rebels in a 1980s civil war.

"They're terrorizing people by saying aid and remittances will be cut off. But people have a right to elect whoever they want," said Mario Estrada, 44, a veteran of the revolution who was paralyzed at age 15 by a bullet in his spine.

1. Viva la revolución!
It is better to be free, and with freedom comes creativity, hope, ingenuity, self-determination, collaboration with compadres, regional cooperation, new ideas, inspiration, pride, generosity, justice, fairness, cultural vibrancy, and prosperity. Prosperity is not having rich people. Prosperity is everyone living well, engaged in creative, productive work, and having ease and joy. The U.S. model is a dead end. Look what it has done to every third world county. Look what it has done to THIS country, where Corporations rule and we can't even stop an unjust and heinous war, let alone prevent master thieves from looting our future to the tune of $10 TRILLION. Bushite aid and global corporate predator investment are killers.

But it looks like Nicaraguans may know all this. And I hope they are watching the vote counting with eagle eyes.

2. Former U.N. Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick?
Why don't they send Kissinger down too? They must be really short of front men and stooges.

5. Since when
does investment from the world's largest debtor nation matter? I'd be more interested in good relations with China; they've got billions of dollars in money to invest. The only good stuff the US has is military equipment. Once the government stops buying it I'm sure it will go on the cheap.
