Ex-Imperial Wizard Bowers dies in prison
JACKSON, Miss. - Former Ku Klux Klan Imperial Wizard Samuel H. Bowers, who was serving a life sentence for the 1966 bombing death of a civil rights leader, died Sunday in a state penitentiary, officials said. He was 82.

He died of cardiac arrest, said Mississippi Department of Corrections spokeswoman Tara Booth.

Bowers was convicted in August of 1998 of ordering the assassination of Vernon Dahmer, a civil rights activist who had fought for black rights during Mississippi's turbulent struggle for racial equality.

11. What a shame -- he could have been a better human. . .
but nature or nurture twisted him out of recognition and the choices he made left him dead, alone, behind cold walls and colder bars. Maybe his death will provide an object lesson to change another person's life. Gotta look for the good in his passing, there was certainly none during his stay.

16. Hate begets hate.
Bowers and his ilk have dedicated their lives to engendering hatred of others and it has sadly worked, not only on his followers but on his enemies as well.

Unfortunately, I'm as guilty as the rest and find that I hate him, too. I feel no sadness in the passing of a human life and I don't have any sympathy for his family or friends. I guess this means that bowers succeeded and I've failed, but I can't even muster up enough decency to care about that. I'm just glad he's dead.

In the end, we are all lesser people because he ever lived. The hate only continues.

the three civil rights workers mudered in Mississippi. and dumped in an earthen dam.
case was the inspiration for "mississippi burning,' which diddled the facts quite a bit.

one of the great tragedies of our history...and a story of unimaginable cruelty and blind hatred

26. refuse to pretend to mourn
People die every day. Good people and bad people. I figure somewhere there is something of a quota to be met. Therefore, I refuse to pretend to regret when one of the bad ones is taken.

27. The Confederate Flag in front of George Allen's home
has been lowered to half staff tonight and he'll, no doubt, be observing several days of mourning. Too bad he only had one son to name after a KKK Grand Wizard. He chose Forrest, but Samuel was probably a runner up.
