Report: Feds Refusing FBI Terror Cases
By LARA JAKES JORDAN
ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Justice Department increasingly has refused to prosecute FBI cases targeting suspected terrorists over the past five years, according to private researchers who reviewed department records.

The government says the findings are inaccurate and "intellectually dishonest."

The report being released Monday by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University raises questions about the quality of the FBI's investigations.

Prosecutors declined to bring charges in 131 of 150, or 87 percent, of international terrorist case referrals from the FBI between October 2005 and June 2006, according to the report. The study was based on the most recent data available from the Justice Department's executive office for U.S. attorneys.

That number marks the peak of generally steady increases from the 2001 budget year, when prosecutors rejected 33 percent of such cases from the FBI, according to the report.

The data "raise troubling questions about the bureau's investigation of criminal matters involving individuals the government has identified as international terrorists," the report said.

1. With this so-called "War on Terror", there seems to be an amazingly small

population of terrorists to prosecute. I suspect that the real terrorists are not in some bombed out village in Afghanistan. The real nasty bastards can be found in 3 pc. suits submitting no-bid contracts to their favorite war-mongering governments worldwide. I also suspect that this administration has no real interest in pursuing these terrorists, however.

2. i live in North Ca. and recently we had a case up here in Lodi where there
was a conviction of so called terrorists, it was actually featured on Frontline, the lawyer is appealing the conviction based on jury tampering and from what i've read of the foreman right after the case concluded i think the lawyer has a really good chance. The evidence and lack there of was very suspect.

4. My sister said, 'Where are the car bombs?"
"If there are so many terrorists, why are there NO car bombs?"

3. This is no surprise
With all the 14-year-old girls with "anti-bush posters" and other such "terrorist cases" being pursued by the FBI, I'm surprised the number being rejected is as low as 87%.
