Republicans end calls Democrats claim were misleading
CONCORD, N.H. -- The National Republican Congressional Committee has agreed to stop its automated calling campaign to New Hampshire residents on the federal do-not-call list, according to the state Democratic Party.

But a spokesman for the NRCC said Sunday that there are no plans to curtail the campaign that has resulted in a flood of calls to the state Democratic Party from angry voters who think the messages are made on behalf of Paul Hodes, the Democratic challenger of incumbent Republican Charles Bass.

Instead, they were coming from the National Republican Congressional Committee but sound, at first, as though they may be from the Hodes' campaign.

"It's a clear effort on behalf of the Republican Party to annoy and upset New Hampshire residents ... and people are under the assumption they are coming from Paul Hodes," Democratic Party spokeswoman Kathleen Strand said.

2. I hope someone informed the local news up there to report the
truth of this constantly today. It's so dirty and how can this even be legal?

5. It's more widespread than only New Hampshire. Illinois, too!
Here in Illinois:

http://www.pioneerlocal.com/barrington/news/120568,ba-chrobocalls68-110206-s1.article

Rozanne Ronen, a Barrington resident, got the call -- "Hi. I'm calling with information about Melissa Bean ..."

Then she got the call again and again and 18 more times, making for a total of about 21 calls since October 24.

...

But the calls aren't paid for by Bean, Duckworth or even the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, they are paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee.

....

"Now when we call ... for volunteers or knock on doors, people think we've already made a dozen attempts to contact them. It plays on the fact that people hate these calls and makes them think it's us and not them," she said.

...

16. I think the poster meant 'only New Hampshire' in the sense that the RNCC is only curtailing it there

in New Hampshire, and then only to those on the DNC list.

17. Right. That was what I meant - this was only stopping it in NH but not
in the rest of the Country.

I don't even necessarily believe they will actually stop it in NH. I've seen some of the NRCC's responses that said they wouldn't stop, plus, of course, they lie so even if they said they would stop, who knows

11. They are doing this all over the country.
Some people are receiving dozens of calls supposedly from a Democrat saying things like: "Hi, I'm Democratic candidate X and I think it's important that we raise taxes ... " I can't believe this sort of misrepresentation is legal. You wonder how many people are stupid enough to fall for it, or if word will get out and it will backfire on the repukes.

Damn, they are lower than pond scum.

15. Think this can lose it for us?
I guess it isn't as bad as in 02, when they blocked the Democrat's entire means of communications on election day. Who knows if they'll have something even worse tommorrow....
