Kleeb hits campaign trail hard in close 3rd district race

BY PAUL HAMMEL

WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Amid the clatter of dishes and the smell of frying bacon, Democrat congressional candidate Scott Kleeb worked the tables Sunday morning at the Conoco Cafe, seeking some last-minute votes before President Bush hit town.

By all appearances, the Yale graduate-ranch hand - in his trademark blue jeans and cowboy boots - continued to round up supporters hours before the presidential visit to aid 3rd District Republican candidate Adrian Smith.

"I like that young kid," said Charles "Shorty" McDonald, a retired farmer and Republican, said after the 31-year-old Kleeb visited his table.

"He's young, and he's has the right ideas," McDonald said, citing Kleeb's support for farmers.

1. .
I saw his ad "Thank you" and hope he can still win it. I haven't seen any polls though.

2. This weeks poll says.....

KLEEB by four points. With the error margin, it is a dead heat.

3. That's great
I'm going to be so proud of him when he wins.

It says here he's up 46-40 but I can't tell if that's an internal poll, which I would be reluctant to believe.
